This makes me wish I was rich like Steve Jobs’ widow so I could donate new, roomy, gorgeous branch libraries everywhere.

I was surprised to see a nice library in Lexington as part of the list. I was completely grossed out by the “sponsored by Sealy tempur-pedic” wall though. Inviting corporate sponsorship is just inviting future censorship.

The comments say that this finicky solution was replaced with plastic-wrapped cables.

Also I don’t think the story is talking about birds sitting on high voltage lines that are on those tall metal towers — the problem is with the telephone poles running through wooded neighborhoods. These are easy to bury.

Disconnected nacelles and programmable matter were complete turn offs for me.

Or you know we could bury the power lines like we do other utilities.

So is the brain rewiring at some point? Or does it get damaged? Or is it prewired and then turns on at some point? Depression is a disease, but people usually aren’t born depressed.

It’s a great show. They tried to remake it a few years ago, but it paled in comparison to the original.

Be seeing you!

Sounds like humans. Not sure why scientists would think all apes would use the same language. Even giving a middle finger isn’t a universal gesture across our species.

That photo looks like the poster for the mini series “Dancing On The Edge”:

Japan is currently holding clinical trials. I think that’s the closest we’ve come to actually seeing this happen.

I would love to see more co-ed team sports at the jr high and high school level. Could be interesting if the teams were required to have a certain percentage of male and female on the court/field, with transgender counting as either. People take school sports way too seriously.

I’d say she’s been trying, but I don’t know that anything has been achieved yet. Still an improvement over what we had before.

So although Paramount is being purchased by Skydance media, it’s being bankrolled by Ellison of Oracle software fame. Why he wants to run an entertainment studio, I have no idea.

“It’s not like ‘ER.’ It’s not kind of ‘ER.’ It’s not sort of ‘ER.’ It is ‘ER’ with the exact same executive producer, writer, star, production companies, studio and network as the planned ‘ER’ reboot.”

Because of Texas’ messed up “Robin Hood” school funding, a chunk of that increase would go to the state, not to Austin ISD.

Would be great to see something like this trialed in Austin.

Not that I should be surprised, but trying to watch it today and it’s just talk talk talk talk. Commercials. More talk. Overhead shots of the stadium. People walking around in the rain. Talking head. Cut away to footage of Carl Lewis bitching about something. Instant replay of something they already showed. People hugging. Stadium shot. Human interest story. Commercial. Shot of Eiffel Tower. Promo for actual sports being shown on Peacock. Etc etc.

Meanwhile you can see there’s sporting events going on because they are showing them on the Jumbotron in the stadium shots. Really no excuse for this since most of this coverage is pre-recorded anyway.
