Been paying attention to indie film labels and it definitely seems like climate change fear porn is a growing genre in independent filmmaking.

They make them but they aren't intensely marketed. They rely on word of mouth but they don't get as much word of mouth as A24 movies so they often fall by the wayside.

Ain't nobody talking about Small Things Like These, which is why despite a minimal $12.4m budget it only made $8.9m back.

Yeah in my top ten list (of which only one I saw at home rather than in theaters), the only movies that were based on existing IP were Dune Part Two, The Wild Robot, and Godzilla Minus One.

I'm not familiar with how UK politics works, so forgive me, but the article this article sites says:

The Government has formally rejected repeated requests for a Home Office-led inquiry into historic child abuse in Oldham after the town's council voted on the matter earlier this year.

https://www.gbnews.com/news/oldham-grooming-gangs-labour-government-inquiry-abuse-scandal

Does Labour run the Home Office? If so, the headline makes sense. Members of a party in a certain portion of the country doesn't represent the entire party the same way members of the national chapter do, so I could see how an Oldham investigation wouldn't be viewed as a Labour investigation, but a Home Office investigation would be.

She was of the opinion that the council in question (Oldham?) should lead any investigation.

She still refused to have the Home Office investigate this alleged scandal though, right?

What's inaccurate about the headline?

If I was in your boat I'd probably do what you're doing right now, because I hate Roku's operating system. Long ago my family used this Roku for the same use case:

It's the Roku Roku Express+ 3910RW. Apparently it doesn't get updates anymore though so your mileage may vary with this thing.

That's a great point. I thought the initiatives would strive for a 50/50 balance which is why 16% surprises me so much.

Sorry there are so many terrorists, I should have mentioned: not THOSE terrorists. Ofc the Palestine protesters are in solidarity with Hamas, but I am not sure if those same people are aligned with ISIS.

This happening despite "equity"-focused policies like DEI in corporate America surprises me. Something about the 2024 and 2025 film schedules seem a bit odd/thin, I wonder how much success women will have in 2026.

Do y'all think this is a marketing issue, or women not getting enough opportunities in Hollywood, or audiences rejecting female filmmakers?
