Finally, I love all the cat puns by Uliminas

Chalk up one for the translator, because I'm pretty sure that she was originally just ending all her sentences with nyan, although I admit I wasn't paying close attention.

(Yes, I've been calling myself "meow" in Japanese. Both my cats approve.)

Except that the issues with distribution have nothing to do with efficiency, they have to do with politics, economics, and corruption. Last I checked, we had or could produce enough food for everyone on the planet, but getting it to the right places was impossible for reasons that can't be fixed with technology.

Improvements in storing vegetables can reduce waste, which is a good thing in and of itself, but aren't going to feed people in famine-stricken areas that have no vegetables to store.

Or we could subsidize the health care and the assisted living, etc. facilities directly. I wonder if anyone's actually done a study on which is more expensive. (Of course, any attempt to do this would probably make certain whiny premiers raise even more jurisdictional issues.)

So why wasn't this building inspected? Or was the inspector complicit?

So they want people to pull the plug instead of signing out properly. If they don't can this before it leaves the Beta Channel, they're going to need to beef up their tech support, because the many office workers who use Windows mostly as a launcher for Excel won't have a clue.

The coach should have been aware of what was going on, yes, but may simply have been incompetent and not complicit. They should probably be fired from their teaching job (I assume that's what they really do for a living) and definitely should not ever again be placed in a position of authority with a youth sports team.

Should the school's administration have been aware? That one's more difficult. On the one hand, the offenders might have been very careful about keeping any word of just how bad their "hazing" was from getting out. On the gripping hand, there's a known cultural problem with team sports in general and there's been a lot of focus in the media lately on issues with hockey in particular, but if there were no known problems previously, the admin may have assumed it was a not-here problem and gotten complacent.

The people who really should get looked into are recent graduates who were on the hockey team in the past three or four years. The offenders got the idea to do this from somewhere.

Retirement spaces—okay if it's expected that citizens will live there long-term.

Student residences—specifically intended to be used only for a short, fixed term. These do need to be built, but they are not housing for any useful definition of housing.

Nothing worse than most other administrations in Canadian history (some scandals, some corruption, nothing that I would consider unusual or extreme). Some people are salty because, like most politicians, Trudeau didn't deliver on all of his campaign promises.

The thing is, Prime Ministers (and Premiers) seldom stay in power for more than two consecutive terms in Canada. That's when voters seem to insist on going to look for a new magic wand to fix things (never mind that it's never worked in the past).

In the end, it's all a popularity and media manipulation contest.

Tech startups have long been a gambling game that would make the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission proud. They often underpay their staff and make up the difference in stock options etc., hoping that the company will gain enough momentum that they can cash out before potential investors realize they're a long way from turning a profit. You have to be either young and foolhardy or crazy ambitious to hitch your wagon to that kind of star.

Will this tax change discourage those types of companies a bit? Maybe, but since most of them fail anyway, I don't think much of value is going to be lost.

(I was young and foolhardy once upon a time, but I'm actually not all that salty about it—they paid me a reasonable salary and I wasn't expecting the rest of what they promised to actually materialize. However, I had the advantage of not having picked up any student loan debt, which was rare even then.)

I would not be worried at all about our government wanting to control the Fediverse because they handed over some cash to finance development—at most they'd stop putting in more cash after the next election cycle. It's just not how our government behaves (we have more issues with them being unwilling to take over things when the citizens actually want them to).

In short, we need some option that will allow these corpses to be efficiently cremated without unnecessary trappings (with permission of the next of kin or if no next of kin can be found after a reasonable amount of time). It doesn't seem like that should be that all that difficult, but laws surrounding human remains can be weird.

We managed to pick up some off newegg.ca as recently as a couple of years ago (RCA branded). Only 32-inch panels, though, so if you're looking for a living room centerpiece, you're better off going the digital signage route.
