They can. Though their workaround won't take long to come with a Proton update. At least Paradox isn't known with that kind of anti-cheat.

They do not. F-Droid also compiles from the source, they are the same apps.
Proton doesn't need to be allowed. It will be fine, unless they decide to put some terrible anti-cheat.
For me, it's Starcraft 2.
Try lowering some VRAM-heavy graphics settings. This was happening with Elite Dangerous to me with Proton 6. It was fixed with later Proton releases but until then I played with lowered VRAM-heavy settings.
Sounds like a memory leak. Have you checked your RAM and GPU memory when this happens? You can use btop and nvtop. If it's a memory leak, it shouldn't happen with every game though.
To be fair, I don't know any benchmark for this comparison. But I just tried a relatively big file with both of them. Opening part is not really noticeable, but fast-forwarding is much better and slicker in mpv. In VLC it looks like it's jumping between scenes, in mpv you actually see the motion of it's getting fast-forward.
Yes it's quite noticeable, especially with the bigger file size. mpv is really light.
You can still use older hardware in 2025. So, yes.
That makes sense. Nouveau isn't mature for some use cases yet, even though they made a huge jump with NVK. Hardware upgrade might be closer than you think then.
If that game can run on a VM, pretty sure you can play it even though you have activate Windows watermark.
