The swing from the bottom of the petrol cycle to the top was nearly 50c a month ago. It has been divorced from reality for a long while. The ACCC petrol price enquiry did nothing and people were all over Miles about “what’s in it for us poor drivers” when he announced the 50c fares. So it’s a particular pain point in QLD and will be interesting to see what they can do it they push forward with this.

I just try to cook an extra big meal that will yield 1 or 2 extra serves. This means I have something for lunch the next day, but I don’t get bored of having the same thing 5 days in a row.

Another one in FNQ that isn’t getting much media coverage too https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/article/2024/jun/29/man-allegedly-stabbed-woman-to-death-before-attempting-carjack-on-major-queensland-highway

Im sure both of these will go on a list somewhere and we’ll continue to ask “what can we do?”

Credit to the Australian members of parliament who haven’t let this go:

[Prime Minister Anthony] Albanese has said he raised the matter directly with the US, including with the president, Joe Biden, during his visit to Washington in October 2023.

In February this year, Albanese and cabinet members supported a motion put forward by independent MP Andrew Wilkie urging the UK and US to allow Assange to return home to Australia.

The attorney general, Mark Dreyfus, said he also raised the matter with his US counterpart, Merrick Garland, during a meeting in January this year.

The only booth he didn’t win was Windsor. Surprise, surprise, people who live in the inner city preferred the Greens candidate. What a flog.

This got me wondering - do you pair up books like this?

These zip wondersuits are the absolute best. If you know someone having a baby soon they make great gifts. Totally not a bonds spokesperson, just a happy customer.

This design is $7, others are $10. https://www.bonds.com.au/zip-wondersuit-little-leopard-marscapone-bzbva-g9r.html?queryID=daeedae389e1b9055ec67dc1ac4ca11a&objectID=342563&indexName=prod_bonds_m2_bonds_products

Book #6 was released earlier this week, with the final #7 due next year.

Those who have read, what did you think of it?

I’m 68% of the way through according to my Kindle, but I’m enjoying it a lot more than the last 2 books already!

Series description:

Red Rising is a 2014 dystopian science fiction novel by American author Pierce Brown, and the first book and eponym of a series. The novel, set in the future on Mars, follows lowborn miner Darrow as he infiltrates the ranks of the elite Golds.

Australians will soon be able to ban themselves from all online gambling companies in every state and territory using just one form, almost five years after legislation was introduced to parliament.

A national self-exclusion register for online gambling dubbed “BetStop” will be launched on 21 August, the federal government says. It will replace systems in the states and territories that have been criticised as ineffective as they do not cover all bookmakers

There’s also an anonymous opinion piece from an affected person here: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/jul/10/betstop-australian-anti-gambling-register?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

If you’re thinking “why can’t they just not gamble?” There’s also an excellent You Can’t Ask That episode about problem gamblers on iView (Season 2 if you’re looking for it).
