I wonder what kind of parallels can be drawn with Ukraine now and China during WW2 (when the communists allied with the nationalists in order to fend off the Japanese). Perhaps strategically it makes sense for Russian communists to "support" Russia in order to stave off NATO. This would give more breathing room for leftist agitation inside of Russia (and eastern Ukraine for that matter, perhaps western Ukraine too I hope).

I think the best road ahead to human happiness is to expect less.

Nice try tankie, but North Korea is actually not a democracy. They may call it that, but they are authoritarian and the people are basically zombie drones who blindly follow the leader. Unlike here in the US, where we freely chose our democratically elected leaders!

And because the draft was more "impartial" in the sense that middle-class white people were sent to die instead of the "volunteer" military we have now where recruiters target poor and disenfranchised minorities to become the foot soldiers fed to the meat grinder while the officers are still upper-middle class college graduates (especially those from the places like the Naval Academy, West Point, or the Air Force Academy).

We saw with the second Iraq War that Americans didn't really care too much because the well-off upper middle class people just sent their kids to college while the poor black and white people got sent to die in Iraq.

Like you said, Ukranian casualties don't even matter so I guess this is the evolution of imperial warfare (impartial draft > volunteer army > foreign proxies).

On the one hand, having these guys (le redditors and le lemmylords) in charge of the US military would be funny, because they would just order soldiers into the meat grinder ("don't worry, our superior Xbox controllers will be more than enough against those 'mines' and 'missiles'"), but on the other hand, they're stupid enough to do something really life-threatening to the planet (like casually using nukes).
