Makes sense, people use the alphabet every day. Don't understand why more people don't just pirate letters though.

If they don't want honest people considering it, maybe they shouldn't raise the price by 80% in a single price change.

I paid for YouTube premium when it was first available. They guaranteed the price would never change as I was a first adopter. Then they did. Then they did it again. And then again.

Google can fuck off. They have all the money in the world and they need to extort the people who helped grow their business.

I use ProtonVPN. They don't use IPv6, so neither do I.

Thanks! I'm cured!

I think Peterson had a YouTube audience before he got fired, but his lectures then were mostly mundane ramblings about philosophy and psychology.

I think it's fine to call people out on their shit, but too many people see themselves as the arbitors of justice, with no room for rehabilitation or recourse.

The dumbest thing about the Dave Chapelle protests outside Netflix was the entitlement. They wanted to keep their subscriptions while demanding Dave gets kicked off.

They had it backwards. The correct course of action is to stop supporting Netflix and encourage others to do so.

For the consumer to demand that the publisher punishes the performer, so the consumer can continue to utilise the platform is just so spineless.

It's like protesting nestle. "Stop poisoning baby formula in third world countries, so I don't feel morally bankrupt from buying your bottled water"

Jordan Peterson would still be confined to influencing a small group of uni students if there weren't protests to remove him from his tenured position at the university he was teaching at. (Regarding the Canadian trans bill)

The protestors who got him fired made him into a global figure.

People who use racial slurs are assholes for sure. The point I was getting at is that the left keeps thinking they can break these twats, but it reliably backfires.

Another example: Dave Chapelle.

If people just ignored him then he wouldn't have milked multiple standup specials for the one subject.

Episode is cracked.

It's basically Uncut Gems, toddler edition.

Want to teach your kids what anxiety is? Here's half an hour or Bluey in which all the characters are on the verge of a mental breakdown.

The problem with all of them is that they lack nuance.

Sure, they can be used as incindiary and provocative statements to initiate conversation or oust someone, but more often than not, the words are not crossing the aisle.

When the left says "defund the police" the right hears "completely strip the police of all money" (I have actually seen leftists make the claim that this is not hyperbole).

When the left says "trans women are women" we mean "the definition of woman has changed from biological to cultural" but what the right hears is "accept our assertion that trans women are biological women or be branded a transphobe".

When the left says "black people cannot be racist" they mean "racism is mired in oppression. It's a waste of time trying to address biases towards white people because they aren't in a position to be opresssed" - but the right hears "black people are hypocrites".

None of this shit does any good to making the world better. It doesn't bridge a divide, it widens it.

On a similar note, did you hear the news about that "tik tok trad wife" who said the n-word? People found her employer and got her fired.

Good job dickheads, now she's doing the rounds on Fox News, Alex Jones, Tucker Carlson etc.

Jordan Peterson, same deal. Brett Weinstein, same deal.

The left need to stop making these people.

If you don't care about the underside of your desk, buy a box of cable clamps and hammer those fuckers in a line along the back edge.

Then buy a bunch of tiny zipties and zip them to the clips. Leave enough room so if you need to, you can get a pair of scissors in and cut the ziptie off.

I don't think you can call an independent novel/movie part of a 'franchise'.

I remember at the time, lots of people being on the fence and didn't know what to believe.

Where do you land now, after all this time?

Also, why?

Banned shows:

  • Paw Patrol - Seems soulless, I haven't watched much, but there seems something very wrong about it. Intuitively, I feel like my kid shouldn't watch it (though, I can could be convinced I'm wrong, if I am)
  • Cocomelon - objectively soulless - don't try to convince me that this show is anything but toddler crack.

Approved:

  • Sesame Street
  • Bluey

Both of the above shows seem to me like they are made with care and have the best interests to teaching children good morals and language skills.

The city I live in, Port Macquarie, has awful cell phone reception basically everywhere (I'm on the Vodafone network).

Is this something I can bring up with the local council, or elected representative?

I can't believe I live in a city of 50,000 people and I'm unable to receive phone calls from my house.

Does HoYo ever repeat these kind of events, or is it unlikely that I'll ever get this lightcone?

I'm having trouble understanding all the benefits of BTRFS and how they'll apply to me.

Copy on Write and auto-compression seem like they will free up a bit of space.

What other practical benefits will I see from using BTRFS? Are there any noticeable performance benefits?

I use my computer to dual-boot. I don't need snapshots because I have a custom script for a fresh install. I use my PC for gaming and work. I've got an NVMe, two SSD's and one HDD.

Thanks in advance!

Place your tank on one side of your team, and your squishies opposite, to mitigate AoE damage

Right now we've got share, bookmark, upvote and down vote.

But I share and bookmark less than I block communities (curating my feed), and hide posts (so I can refresh without scrolling past the same stuff).

The latter two are in the extras menu. It would be great if I could swap these buttons.

Thanks for all your work! This is my favourite Lemmy app!

One of the most annoying parts about That Place, and also Lemmy, is curating your feed by blocking communities you have no interest in seeing.

I am not a sports person, so I need to block each sports team manually when I see it, and also each individual sport. It would be so much better if I could just block an instance called "Lemmy.sports".

I'm glad Lemmy.nsfw is the default porn instance, I think we need to see more of this.

I know it's too late to change at this point, but I think a feature to catagorise different communities would be nice, so I could block "sports" if I wanted to.

Alternatively, maybe down the line see a feature to import a community to a new instance without users having to migrate manually.
