Exactly. It is getting more common to set up non-profit foundations in such situations. Disclosure: There’s a lot of legal stuff I don’t understand but I think the idea is that by having a non-profit entity that is focused on the “mission” and not profits, they will be more able to make the good long-term, decisions a founder might make instead of whatever makes investors the most money.

Derby Pie isn’t the worst name ever. “Here little Derby! Who’s a good wittle Derby Pie? ”

You’re missing the whole point. Think about it another way: You listed things that go down in value or get used up. They listed things that appreciate in value and build wealth.

You’re comparing (barely) being able to afford the cheap iPhones and gas to an education and homeownership.

If you don’t have any idea how to configure a configuration.nix, you need to start there. In my opinion, NixOS is not like any other distro and if you try to treat it like a normal distro, you will have a bad time.

I knew exactly whose video that would be before I clicked it. Great videos (there is more than one on this subject) and a great channel in general.

Yep. They’ve been using their cash and Cook’s supply chain skills to crush competition and secure sweatshops wherever cheap labor can be found. It’s been going on for years. I think they have seen the tensions building in China and Taiwan and have been making mostly subtle changes for years. Covid was an excuse to ramp that up.

I have been looking for exactly this project! I think I heard it mentioned on the Linux Unplugged podcast. Anyway, it looks really great! I’m gonna play with it this weekend and see what I can break. =)

Thanks again! I can’t wait to give it a try.
