Because English is a Germanic language that has half of it's vocabulary as borrowed words from a Romance language (French) that then got chewed up and mangled for a few centuries.

Not like Gaelic, which has to own the fact that most of it's words are pronounced in the least sensible way one might think that series of letters is said.

I mean all child mortality stats are shotty, because they're about kids dying.

But the short version of it is that the largest segment of kids dying to guns is them being accidentally shot in the same demographics whose adults make up the largest slice of shooting homicides (in both perps and victims) - minority (especially black) inner city communities.

The reasons are likely related - if you're in a demographic where you're more likely to shoot or be shot you're more likely to have a gun around that's not well secured, which means you're more likely to have accidental shootings too.

You know that AR doesn't stand for assault rifle, right? The AR is for Armalite, the inventors of the design. It's just a semiautomatic rifle with a detachable magazine, it's pretty common to use as a hunting rifle.

And yeah, you see AR-15 and it's workalikes all over the place because they're flexible. Literally the most common rifle in the US. That's why they're so common in public mass shootings - those shooters generally aren't buying a gun specifically for that sort of shooting, they're using a gun they already have access to or what they can readily purchase off the shelf.

It's not the best gun for any scenario, but it's a good enough gun for most and that's because it's modular and the guns and parts are both commonly available.

The only times I've had it be remotely helpful is when you want something specific that's going to appear near the top of search results and is also likely to be buried in a bunch of irrelevant faff. Which is to say that occasionally "search for X and summarize the top result" is a useful tool but not often enough for them to front and center it like they do.

For example recipes. You can't copyright a recipe, so recipes tend to be buried in a lot of crap that isn't the actual recipe.
