So just leave the platform

Algorithms will show you what you like and what others like you like. That's it. I got Muslim dating apps all day every day because I lived in London, but I never clicked, so it went away. It didn't convert me to islam, just like seeing a church outside didn't make me Christian because I'm semi-capable of at least some thought and not purely instinctual animalistic behaviour as you imply is the case for those who are led by algorithms.

As I said before, the internet is simplu airing out our dirty laundry. Humans are bloodthirsty ghouls most of the time and will believe whatever it takes to justify killing each other.

In the context of WW2 for instance Hitler is the "bad guy", but compared to some of the shit Churchill got up to for instance with the Bengali, he seemed fairly civilised, and even that would've seemed soft compared to Stalin's purges and the Holodomor, but say what you will - none of them had Jim Crow laws.

I mean, yeah? That's always been my relationships, I've only ever had pretty long-term ones.

Do y'all literally talk to your significant others about the goddamn weather or food every day?

Idk about y'all but in my current relationship I'd usually start with an in-depth analysis of some latest media I consumed or a geopolitical development, we'll be briefly reflecting upon developments in Palestine or Ukraine or UK politics or the latest on the US election while we share a couple Red Bulls and try new Elfbar flavours.

Sometimes this descends into a hearty debate on economics like whether increased taxation can raise the value of currency through demand creation (technically but it's not an effective measure), however eventually i will be pivoting into a technology I had learned about or historical context for some such, perhaps reflecting upon my cybersec exploits, relating to my independent study or my dayjob.

At some point she'd relate it to a material or technique she's been studying for her masters in material engineering, she'd remark on disliking inorganic chemistry, and we'd get into in-jokes, (latest being about Aerobiz 2000 for the Sega Genesis and my interest in the inner workings of an A320 and less than stellar business acumen) which will inevitably make us watch a video essay on YT or play a light game together like Life is Strange or HOI4 or even just listen to some music, later we'd order some Domino's Pizza and have some intimate times, a couple of nice sweet Barefoot wines and maybe a bit of Kinder Chocolate (not Bueno) for dessert later, we're asleep.

Sometimes we get nostalgic and talk about what life was like before we met on Tinder or talk about our future dreams, plans and aspirations.

I think smalltalk is okay when you're in a work meeting and you just want the coworkers to go away as soon as possible and let you get back to sleep, but I'd never date someone who is so socially inept that they would resort to smalltalk.

I also believe that ads in games are OK with minimal disruption

Yeah you're gonna find this to not be a popular opinion in the non-mobile gaming spaces. I block all vidya from accessing the internet in any fashion.

Insane, he's committed no crimes, he just has instructions that I'm pretty sure are probably openly available on the internet.

That's true, and you can make Windows XP look like '98, but is it really what retro enthusiasts would want?

I mean, it could be very fun and perhaps even worth playing, but surely you understand that a game that on-paper doesn't require the viewing of ads, but heavily incentivizes just that is still problematic?

It's like one of those "free-to-play" particularly grindy MMOs, sure, you don't have to pay, just grind the "kill 10 goblin rats in a basement quest" for 250 hours and you'll have all the loot you need to get to level 2, but the option to pay is there if you so-choose it.

In such a case it is fairly obvious that there is not actually a choice when you are heavily incentivized towards one end.

I remember I made a thread asking for advice running an older version of Linux for funsies and to experience it and unironically someone said something along those lines to me, like "uhm Linux isn't windows you can use modern packages and new distros support older hardware" like ughh

Federation has inherent delay, on my instance that comment could stay up for a while. It is deleted for me now.

Even the daytime conditions that make the tickets go from £25 to £30 like peak travel times are fucking bullshit when Germany has a daytime £10 pass that includes all busses, trains, Poland and probably a trip to the ISS for good measure.
