This feels like one of those European translated turns of phrase. Like in Dutch there is a phrase that translates to "monkey sandwich story" that is used to call somebody a liar.

Because the alternatives are to roll over and take it or revolt with violence and we should strive for peaceful resolution before violent revolution.
I mean, one of the more quoted lines in LOTR is a human woman telling the Nazgul Witch King "I am no ... man." The film quote is shorter and more direct but the book still has Eowyn telling the witch kind she isn't a man. So there are men and women but also man is used to describe humans.
What I mean is, there is no way the Chinese headquarters of tik Tok will let the America arm of the company have access to its algorithm. Tik Tok is nothing without its algorithm. At best it's a large install base that will dwindle once they realize til Tok kinda sucks all of a sudden.
Forced sale only works if your government has any control over the organizational structure of your company which the USA does not. What they are effectively doing is forcing the American arm of Tik Tok to sell without access to it's technology which China can absolutely deny. If the sale doesn't go through, the US will ban its use. If they do sell, it will be without the technology and a company will be Tik Tok in name only having to essentially build the service from the ground up. This is an effective ban of Tik Tok regardless of the outcome.
But we aren't in an Idiocracy like in the movie. That movie was about well meaning idiots in government because they were the "smartest" of the idiot population. What we currently have is an evil corporatocracy. Capitalism decides how our elected officials govern through lobbying. People are becoming dumber over time because of knowing, bad actors who want that to be the case. Education is getting worse, those in charge want citizens to fall in line and they want us to fight so that we elect the same people over and over and over again so that said people can continue to reap the benefits of that corporate lobbying.
Top to bottom the system is the way that it is because of intelligent bad actors squeezing us for all we are worth, not idiots.
Yeah it's a support stratagem too so it's a pretty long cooldown but not long enough not to be ready before the end of the mission.
Most places annually through either smog or state inspection. Some states don't have any kind of state inspection though.
I literally said it's a good idea and that it needs to go further.
The same reason poor highschool kids are often part of the school to prison pipeline. Corruption in poor students' education leads to intentionally poor education which leads them to struggle as adults to meet the requirements of jobs that a student who got a scholarship to a "good" school will. I think this is a good idea but it's not enough to make community college free. Higher education in general needs to come down drastically in price and the difference in cost between schools needs to come down as well. There is already judgment in adulthood about which school you went to. Now imagine what that judgement will be like when they find out you went to the free kind of community college.
It corrupts the training data to recategorize all images generated in the future. It's not about protecting a single image, that's what glaze is for. This is about making the AI worse at making new images.
All my devices, Linux or otherwise, have a host name after fictional a vessel be it water, air, or space. Weatherlight, Swordfish_II, Hammerhead, Pequod, Flying_Dutchman, Serenity, Arwing, Cloudbase, Prydwen, Nebuchadnezzar... I'm sure there are more I'm not thinking of. Nebuchadnezzar is my LTO machine that I can never spell correctly... but that's fine, I only log in to do an annual backup to cold and fresh install of any workstation or laptop or cellphone to tape and store in my safe. Have been doing that for 3 years now. I have to look up how to spell it literally every time.
