They might not have been the deciding factor but they certainly played an important role in handing him the presidency.
The earliest that “lesson” will have any relevance is in 4 years time. In the meantime Trump is going to give Netanyahu everything he needs to quickly level Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon and start construction on a greater Israel. In 4 years time whatever “lesson” the Dems might have learnt will be meaningless.
