I've had 2 cups of mocha almond milk and a cup of chocolate oat milk. I think the chocolate oat milk wins but what say you?

Oh and cashew nut milk is so good I have to drink the whole carton in one go. I can't refrigerate it. Impossible.

Oat tastes good and causes way less negative environmental impact than the other types, so win-win!

I don't really care about the environment. I just like gargling nutty milk.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 10 months ago

Well you're still contributing anyway then over the cow milkers, so all is good. You gargle all the nuts you want!

Oat milk, by far. I find it tastes the best of them all in coffee and tea, and works well in things like mashed potatoes too. I do also put it in porridge, but that feels... Uncomfortable.

You put oat milk in mashed potatos but porridge is too far? That's wrong, you're wrong. Eveything is wrong! Oat milk is sweet, like porridge should be.

Potatos are savoury.

What other depths of depravity do you plumb? Are you going to tell me you put orange with oat milk, next? Mix oat milk with toothpaste? Why not just whack all the milks in a blender and summon Satan himself?!

P.S. I like your avatar. Very cute.

The sweetness if fine, offset by lashings of salt and butter (or butter alternative).

I just have to stop for a moment when I realise I'm covering a pan of oats with... the liquid from what would have been another pan of oats at some point. Oatception.

PS: Thanks!

Oyakodon is a Japanese dish that's egg and chicken and means parent and child. I get it, similar vibes.

[–] Toda 1 points 10 months ago

Very much this vibe!

Vanilla soy milk.

Or kefir if that counts. It's not milk, it's not yogurt; it's somewhere in between.

I really didn't like almond milk, the only other milk alternative I've had to the soy milk. Soy milk is at least creamy. Almond milk is pretty much nut water. 🤢

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

I don't think kefir counts, as OP is asking about milk alternatives, but kefir is (at least traditionally) made from dairy milk.

If you've not tried oat milk, I recommend it, I think it's nicer than soy and it has that creaminess to it that you say you want.

hell yeah oat milk gang

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago

Oat milk for me, too. I've found there's quite a bit of variation between brands, though. I like the thicker, creamier varieties that have just a touch of sweetness.

The rice milk I've tried has been largely flavorless; soy milk has that "soy milk" flavor that I don't hate, but I'm not really into; and the nut milks I've tried (especially almond milk) have an odd, slight sourness that I find really unpleasant. I'd like coconut milk more if it tasted more coconutty.

Is that a real thing? It sounds made up and I don't think I've ever seen it.

Ah excellent pun magic! I'll look out for some and try it. 👍

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Not often I have any milk like drinks. But when I do, rice milk is my favourite

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Does it taste better than the white rice water you get after boiling rice?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

Well, it is thicker!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

If money wasn't an issue.... Almond milk. Loved that stuff. Oat milk too.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I'm a big fan of almond milk. When I have a chai latte it's always with almond milk. I generally find it the closest to milk, all the other ones have their own unique taste which impacts the flavour of the thing I'm having it with.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

That's a fantastic idea!! Can't believe I hadn't thought of that. I love chai tea but I'm very, very first about the levels of spices and flavours. So I'll often add a touch of extra cinnamon. I'm gonna try some almond milk and see how it goes. 👍

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

Another one for chai lattes: they go very well with spiced rum, and no one will even think that might be in a Starbucks cup!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I feel i should have some strong opinions on milk...

Seriously though, are there any which don't change the taste of tea? All the ones I've tried make it taste quite different.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

Almond milk? I'm not sure, I've not really had it in tea, but it not massively changing the flavour is exactly the reason I use it for cereals and chai lattes.

Soya milk. Nothing fancy or expensive. Cheap and unsweetened.
