I don't understand what's happening here.
The Far Side
Hello fellow Far Side fans!
About this community and how I post the comic strip… Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips and one of those was The Far Side. These days of course you find just about anything online including www.thefarside.com where they post several comics a day and I repost them here. Just to note, the date you see in my posts is not the initial release date, but the date they were posted on the website.
The Far Side is a single-panel comic created by Gary Larson and syndicated by Chronicle Features and then Universal Press Syndicate, which ran from December 31, 1979, to January 1, 1995 (when Larson retired as a cartoonist). Its surrealistic humor is often based on uncomfortable social situations, improbable events, an anthropomorphic view of the world, logical fallacies, impending bizarre disasters, (often twisted) references to proverbs, or the search for meaning in life… Read more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Far_Side

He tripped in front of the chickens while gathering their eggs, destroying all their hard work, and now they look at him in disgust and disappointment.
And that's why you never keep all your eggs in one basket.
Chickens look dead, not disappointed. Maybe they were all hit with nerve gas or something?
Bird flu?
I believe the chickens have fainted. Note the limp wings on the one in the middle, and the "dizziness" squiggle above each one's head.
That could also be an "angry" squiggle.
Maybe it’s just a bunch of little Ms
Chickens are semi-cannibalistic, and if their eggs are broken, they will eat them.
Or at least I assume this bit of trivia is what Larson is after. Sometimes we think he’s playing 4D chess when he’s a few X’s short of a tic-tac-toe. (And the reverse as well)
Having been around chickens I wouldn't say semi-cannabalistic, they'll totally eat each other if one of them dies even if there's plenty of their regular feed lying around.
Carbon monoxide leak.
That's what I thought!
I thought he like, grabbed their necks and killed them while trying to stop himself falling over. I agree it's unclear what is going on.
What is supposed to be happening here?
I'm pretty confused too. If the chickens hadn't fainted it would be pretty evident that it's about "putting all your eggs in one basket" but I dunno
I read it as them glaring at the farmer for causing this tragedy, suggesting that they don't know that the eggs were just going to be eaten otherwise.
Chicken Tools
yeah OP seems to be posting all of the obscure ones that don't make sense on purpose
You got the year wrong lol
The date is when it’s posted on thefarside.com not the original publish date.
That link says 2024, yours says 2023.
Doh! Thanks for pointing that out.
Thought it was a commentary on the price of eggs these days before reading yours and scrolling up lol
