Do you see them as anticipation? Or just unnecessary stress in reading fanfics? Have you dropped fanfics that ended in cliffhangers?

I like them so long as I actually get the payoff. I really hate media that ends on a cliffhanger and then never gets finished.

TV shows seen to be all about it these days. Every single episode leaves on a wild cliffhanger so you wanna see the next episode as soon as it airs.

Chapter cliffhangers are fun! I want to be engaged and wonder what will happen next. If the story itself ends on a cliffhanger... I guess that kinda depends. Is it setting up for a sequel? Is the author leaning into ambiguity? Both can work if the author can pull it off. I don't think I would drop a fic for cliffhangers; I usually drop fics when I stop caring about the story/characters, or reading the story feels more like a chore than something fun that I look forward to.

Although, to be fair, this is high-octane fanfic fuel. See Disney's Gargoyles.

This. I love them, but fanfiction gets abandoned often enough that there's a real risk that it never gets updated

I think it's fine if a cliffhanger asks new questions, but if there are any unknowns or uncertainties during the story I'd rather have them answered by the end though.

It depends on how many months should I wait for the cliffahanger to be resolved? Ahahaha if the author goes on hiatus after a cliffhanger, I feel extremely stressed!
