I would recommend buying some higher quality socks, I have started ordering Darn tough and they are holding up well, I hit 10K steps everyday and not a single one has had any indication of anything like this happening yet. meanwhile I would have gone through a few set of cheap socks.

I have almost exclusively darn tough socks now and have for over 15 years at this point. I do eventually get worn areas in them but I never let them get anywhere near this bad. A small section of padding worn out is enough for DT to replace them for me. My main hobby is backpacking though so they get used hard and often. I would guess they last somewhere around 500 miles per pair for the micro crews. The business socks are also nice but wear out faster.

+1 for Darn Tough. I go through a lot of socks but my two pairs of Darn Tough socks are still going strong, despite one of them having a hole melted through it by?? a spark from a campfire?? I thought it would be the end for that one but it's barely noticed.

Another couple good brands would be Smartwool and Fox River

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago

And when they finally do wear out, send them in for a brand new pair!

Do they sell noshows? It seems every luxe sock brand only sells boot socks

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

i do have short socks from them ,below ankle not sure if that qualifies as noshow

Gotta love manual labour. One of the things you don’t realise until you do it is just how much you end up spending on socks - this shit is incredibly hard on your feet and what you wear on them.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 11 months ago

Get "darn toughs" - expensive but warrenty for life.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I spent slightly more than I usually do for some copper threaded compression socks.

I don't give a damn about the pseudoscience bull about copper relieving pain; but I figured it's stronger than cotton and it hasn't let me down in the wear and tear department.

Try Darn Tough socks, they have a lifetime guarantee.

If your socks ever wear out you can send them back and they will replace them for free, no receipt or anything else needed.

The extra initial cost has been worth it for me

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago

100% worth it. I got my first pair 3 years ago and only just wore a hole in them. Gonna send them in for my new pair soon.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Relieving pain? 🤔 I would have expected the marketing to be about the anti microbial properties...

Yep. It's been years, but I remember seeing ads for and being sold on store shelves these copper bracelets that were like those medical alert bracelets, but copper, as well as copper threaded compression socks both being advertised as relieving pain, curing sickness, removing toxins from the body, and all that other snake-oily bull that's been perpetuated about copper since mankind has been using the metal.

Hell, the socks I own aren't even sold in the normal clothing section; they're in the pharmacy with the back braces and splints and such.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah I assume compression socks would be there. They’re useful for people with circulation problems

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Anyone sitting or standing the whole day at work is very prone to get circulation problems later in life. I don't know how good these socks are for prevention though.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago

Wool socks. They're worth it. Keep your feet feeling dry (even when they are literally soaked). Fewer blisters if your feet do get wet. My feet are warmer in winter and cooler in summer with wool. They seem to last much longer and wear better too. My older wool socks have just worn to confirm better to the shape of my feet.

I will NEVER wear cotton socks to work outside again.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 11 months ago

Nice humblebrag. "I still have a layer of material on my socks!" Asshole.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Once you're a grown up socks and undies are a great present.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago (2 children)

As someone very particular about my undies and to a lesser degree socks, I disagree. Not all boxer briefs are created equal.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Agreed but thats how you get to your "warning pairs" like if I'm forged to wear those I better get some laundry on before Im going Commando.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Lmao that is too true, that's why I have these bullshit hanes and the only time I wear em.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

All it took was for one person to gift me some FotL underwear to decide that I should be buying my own undergarments. So uncomfortable!

[–] [email protected] 12 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Fuck fast fashion that requires you to buy low quality socks from sweat shops every year. Buy high quality socks! Everyone wins.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

Sorry, but I don't get my salary yearly. Plus, even if I did, my budget doesn't allow that... I haven't bought new foot wear in over 5 years.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

Its frozone

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago

I'd keep wearing those socks for two more years

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Stop wearing socks on the hardwood floor, that helps reduce wear and tear.
