That was really bad start for a post.

Lol I didn't even think about that 😁
There is this wonderful feature called "editing"...
I leave it like this because it's funnier
Based and panic-pilled
This got me. A little dangerous sentence to start post with 😄 I'm not a user from dbzer0, but I appreciate your work on Fediseer 🙏
Hah, you're the second one 😁 unintended panic but only shortly.
I made an account here FIRST on lemmy, but moved to world a week in or so because that was a more active instance
When they stupidly banned communities from here I came back and literally have said out loud that I'm unsure why I ever left
It's a perfect home for lemmy for me (a weird lurker who loves piracy and shrooms and whatnot) and the "is closing" scared the shit out of me lol

1000% this. It's nice to have a place where people are also interested in the weird shit that I like/care about like piracy/cannabis/etc. Additionally, most people I know don't give a shit about privacy and don't understand how wrong the "I don't have anything to hide so what do I care".
This was the only instance that I felt like I immediately identified with, so that being said, keep doing what you're doing OP.
I also had to reread the "is closing" part several times hoping I was reading it wrong.
It feels like there has not been a whole lot of drama while I've been here. I really like that - the ability to scurry off to the other instances and witness their happenings, and then return to our own little safe haven.
We (as an instance, according to my observations) do appear to have some run-ins with a certain other instance every now and again, but they don't appear too much of an annoyance if you don't interact or engage their taunts.
I love that @[email protected] is also a contributor of fed-related projects. Makes it feel a little more personal.
If I were to note anything bad, it might be that I feel reluctance towards the stable diffusion communities. Mostly because I'm not sure whether their training data is ethically sourced. But that and more is a concern I have regarding AI in general, as automating our hobbies was kinda the opposite many initially wanted it for, namely automating labor so we can instead do our hobbies. Not I can judge anyone automating a hobby, as I'm kinda skimping the edge myself, but we, us who work with MLAI, should generally try and push away from any dystopian futures.
All in all, I'm happy being here. Thank you @[email protected] for providing this space! And for everyone else on this instance, don't forget to appreciate it, either by donations or labor, as that is how we keep such spaces running.
Help pls i’m trying to make something out of my life and i don’t feel like i’m doing anything meaningful 🥲
Those are my troubles, matey 🏴☠️
I was likewise. Can you code? Open source projects could always use more help. I run the AI Horde and we're always looking for people with a lot of talents outside of coding. You can also help improve fediverse sites like lemmy.dbzer0.com with moderators etc. Finally I suggest you help out with some direct action around your local area. There's usually some movements for food, gardening etc you could try to join.
Gotta second this, especially the local area stuff. Helps to get to know people around you and make a better connection with where you live.
A lot of people I know that struggle with depression or similar feelings (myself included) had/have a lot of it stem from not feeling that they liked where they were at on a number of levels, including "literally" as in the physical location they lived. The best thing that helped me with "the physical location I lived" was getting involved with local events.
That also helps with finding things to do where you can see direct positive impact of your actions, which is a huge thing that helps me personally. It's why videogames appeal to so many people lately, the immediate and obvious payoff. Stuff like working at a local food pantry, soup kitchen, community garden, volunteer work helping physically disabled people with home projects like painting, etc... those all scratch that same itch of immediate payoff for me at least.
Just throwing it in there that I enjoy reading some hexbear posts. I'd rather unsub from stuff than remove my option to do so on my own
That was actually shocking to find how many people on piracy themed instance would prefer to publicly beg for censure instead of just blocking communities they dislike from their feed.
I think the entire platform would be happier if there was user-level power to easily block instances. Really hoping the devs consider it a priority.
Honestly I don't have much to complain about, you're running the instance pretty well. I think my only complaint (and this is more of a nitpick really) is since the scope of dbzero is mostly reserved for piracy, anarchism and AI related discussion it doesn't really have that many interesting communities in it. I say this because basically almost every single community I'm subscribed to comes from other instances, and given that dbzero is quite large (for Lemmy standards) I believe that if the scope wasn't so narrow it could have a much more diverse and flourishing set of communities.
Otherwise, you're doing great.
To be fair those topics are not mandatory. Anyone can open a community about anything except the forbidden subjects in the sidebar

It's great, a great instance, the best one really. Seriously just love it. I can't believe my luck landing here first try.
Grog's on me, boys!
No troubles! Thanks for a kooky, but stable slice of Lemmy. I’ve been trying to stay low on smaller instances and several have gone down already (growing pains; no one’s fault).
Love the vibes and the anarchism 🤘
First account on fediverse was here. Glad I did. I like that the admin had contributed to the fediverse. Perfect place for me I've been downloading since limewire, BitTorrent, rapidshare and megaupload. meganova was a cool tracker, ddlvalley, oneddl, corebay, funkysouls, piratebay of course. Piracy and sites other sites like this and communities like thls helped me develop skills, how to host your own services to break away from algorithms, how to set up things like websites, pi-hole, like docker, networking, VPNs, I learned how to take care of privacy online. And I am able to share that knowledge with friends and family. As long as this lemmy stays a place where knowledge and information can be shared to others this will be a nice harbor for this semi old pirate 🦜 Don't defederate too quickly from places that might have different opinions. Most of the users here are tech savvy enough to filter their own feeds. I don't want to end up in an echo chamber. That what's Instagram and Facebook etc. is for. Oh I have a question, where we get some stats? Like how many users or new posts? What is the size, in GB? Whats the traffic? How many images?
Have any instances unfederated with us? And if so, how come?
To add to this is there a list somewhere of the ones we have defederated from? I only know of one.
defed.xyz
When starting out here I ended up with a few accounts on different Lemmy/Kbin instances, interestingly the dbzero instance usually has the best overall performance/uptime from what I've seen. So no complaints here :)
For what it's worth I'm usually on here via Tor & haven't had issues on dbzero, a lot of other Lemmy instances trip up over Tor connections and end up with crappy performance with Cloudflare/captchas/etc. or just block it outright.
Appreciate the vote of confidence
Nothing to complain about, thank you for maintaining this instance!
Sorry for being off topic, but I feel a sudden urge to search for treasure on a small Caribbean island, following nothing but a pencil sketch and a rumor.
Honestly I’m happy. Only thing I want now is lemmy 0.19 so I can block hexbear instances with a single entry, since I’m banned on the entire instance because a mod failed at reading comprehension.
Annoying af to not realize the post I’m seeing is from their instance, only for my comment to be eaten.
Thanks for the hard work and effort put into this instance! :)
Is this going away? Where will I go for leftist news and shit posts? DON'T. LEAVE. ME!
All good here, Cap'!
Happy the tankies gripe about us.
Excuse me I happen to like you AND Stalin, thank you very much.
There is actually something I'd like to chat about, but the time is too soon.
Here's to another six months of db0!
I'm enjoying your instance, thanks. No problems here. In fact it's great to use while in the company of family knowing there's not going to be any NSFW surprises.
This is probably the best instance for self hosting enthusiasts and for that I want to say thank you. My only complaint is that our posts aren't searchable. I'm not sure if thats because of the instance or Lemmy itself.
I just hope we get little bit more traction than what we have right now, especially with Piracy. I would think that there should be more folks who are interested in piracy but it's not as active and big as I wanted it to be. I actually enjoy passing by once every while to learn about something new and exciting that people are trying out.
