“Huffman characterized the Reddit protesters as a small but vocal cadre of angry users who are not in touch with the greater Reddit community.”

It's a small group

Doesnt sound much like a small and unimportant group by how much their PR team are pushing out these articles.

I left Reddit because Apollo is going away and the official app is shit. I’m staying away for good because I have no desire to support this guy Huffman in any way. He is the epitome of what greed does to a person. I can’t believe this guy was one of the founders and has absolutely zero respect for the community that was created there. Capitalism corrupts people and I don’t want to be part of it.

And he called us noise, not cool.

But with artificial intelligence-powered large language models like Microsoft-backed ChatGPT and Google's Bard, a massive corpus of conversations is being hoovered up. And in return, Reddit receives very little, he said.

If they take our content and build businesses on it, that's an issue," Huffman said. "If they build businesses such that people come to Reddit less, that's an issue."

"Our content" my ass. This is the same as the CEO thinking they're entitled to the fruits of your labor.

If they take our content and build businesses on

Is like all irony lost to this guy? Literally describing reddit.

I mean the company provided the platform, but "their" content it definitely isn't. And i get that once a company reaches a certain level of fame the greed has to follow, but instead of all this bullshit they could've found a bunch of different way to monetize their platform including the 3rd parties, still make bank, become even bigger and stronger entity and have some decency and dignity in their approach. The thing is though that its exactly because it is a community based platform the things are where they are, reddit became too big for what it was and once there are so many people on it who are used to browse the Instas, facebook and tiktoks, where they have no say in the way the community is ran, they just apply the same sentiment to reddit and you get what we got, people who joined the communities in the last couple of years telling people who been there for a decade that this situation is a bs outrage culture fling and the mods and the company it self will for sure side with them because growth is exponential meaning that in the last year there were probably more new users than in the previous 5. Shame but will happen here too if things go the same way.

He seems pretty angry about Microsoft and Google hoovering up 'his' data. Funny how he's gone after the 3rd party app developers instead of Microsoft and Google.

Surely those two giants will simply just scrape the data they need if it's public facing, API or not?

I guess the subreddits weren't committed enough to the whole blackout thing. :/ It's a shame really. Situations like these show that companies can get away with almost anything if they care more about profits than their image.

I'm protesting by disappearing like a fart in the wind.

I appreciate that Inskeep asked Huffman some hard questions about the Reddit blackout, but it was infuriating to hear Huffman’s half-truths

It doesn't seem that small to me.
