I'm amazed its such a low number. With the number of dominant periods in F1's not too distant past - Schumacher, Vettel, Hamilton, I'd have thought it would be more.
Reliability was terrible so not too surprising
As someone else said, back then the cars broke down as often as they completed a lap
Yeah, the 88 McLaren record will always remain the most impressive for that reason.
The funny thing for me is that McLaren actually had a decent shot at protecting their record. Out of all the mediocre races they've had in the past years, this record was actually rivalled by Red Bull on a day where McLaren had both drivers challenging for the podium and even a driver taking the lead for a few laps.
