Well, I made an attempt lol

2:33:084

Getting AC + Content Manager + CSP working on Linux was pretty fun for me though, so thanks for the push to get that all working. I may attempt later but I'm pretty exhausted after about 10 laps.

Nice. I'd go back to Linux in a heartbeat if it had VR support.

What VR do you currently use? I don't think I'll be happy with VR ever as my vision isn't great and I get a lot of eye strain so I haven't put effort into it. But I have seen a lot of chatter lately over VR support in gamescope as well as HDR support. Gamescope is what I use to play basically all games since I use sway (wayland based i3 like window manager) and it pretty much solves all the display issues I ever had.

Also with the amount of times steam asks me if I want to launch something in VR mode, I would think they support it for some stuff even without gamescope.

Oculus Rift CV1. I don't have the horse power to run something higher end.

I'll check in with Linux every few years to see where its at. I last used it to get around the micro stuttering in Elden Ring. It was a much better experience than in Windows.

I improved to 2.22.955.

I reckon there's at least 1.5, maybe 2 seconds in there.

  • Too wide exiting T2.
  • Too early on the brakes in to T3.
  • Copse wasn't ideal.
  • Wide in to Becketts

Wow. That’s fast in that car.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Goodness... I can't even get a clean banker in this car won't turn in :).

Edit 1: There are few cars I hate; but, I hate this car. :) It is such a pig. Who would make a car this fast that can't turn?

2:29.033 is best so far and it is really slow. I don't know if I am willing to cut myself with razors to try and get that faster :)

I figured that a relatively powerful car with no grip would be fun here haha. Took me a while to get used to it!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Part of my problem is I don't know Silverstone very well. But this will get me to learn it better before this weekend's race. :)

haha, I struggled to get under 3 minutes. Going to try again after work to see if I can make it around without spinning like a top.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

It’s really hard. Punishment in fact. ;)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Yikes not a fan of that car lmao, I gave it a quick go but only managed a 2:25.285.

Side note, this was the first time I’ve tried AC in VR and was pleasantly surprised.

Not amazing but better than ACC at least.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

It's both oversteery and understeery at the same time. I hope I never drive it again hah!

Works amazingly well for me after a bunch of setting tweaks and enabling some mild foveated rendering through OpenXR. Better than AMS2, ACC and about as well as iRacing.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I’m sure it can be made decent, I personally severely doubt it’s better than AMS2 as it’s the gold standard in most everybody’s eyes.

I’ll have to try some more tweaks, incredibly annoying you have to do that to begin with tbh.

Fwiw I already have OpenXR and have tried foveated rendering. Do you have any specific tweaks for AC you’d recommend?

The clarity in game is the main issue, in AC and ACC both the clarity is abysmal compared to AMS2 or iRacing tbh.

Just drunkenly half rebuilt my setup, did 3 laps and got 3.12 as best, only span once so at least that is something :D

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

A drunk or otherwise inebriated got lap challenge could have some legs on a Saturday night for sure! 😂

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I would love to join in on this, but I hate that damned car. I’ve been lapping in the Lotus Exos 125 Stage 1 personally, if anybody is curious.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

AC server would be nice for this. Run your laps and just post the results when time runs out

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Perhaps it would be, but I like getting the posts in here too. Some people may not want to link their Lemmy account with their Steam account too.

If this place gets some more traction then it's something I might look in to though.

I love those old open-wheel H pattern cars even though I'm terrible...

Something like a Lotus Type 49 or Ferrari 312/67 on some period track.

Automobilista2 or AC are my preferred road sims. I think they both have that era car/track combo but the Automobilista2 ones might be DLC, not sure. So I suppose AC might be more accessible to more people.

I just picked up AMS2 on steam sale but haven’t installed it. Is there a lot of content included or is it a bunch of DLC? I got it because I’ve heard the VR in it is beautiful.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Unfortunately looking at what I bought last year it was quite a lot of DLC content since I purchased the "2020-2022 season pass" at the same time as the game. It's hard to tell what the content would look like without that since it's all mixed together in game.

I usually try to buy whatever bundle passes are available when I buy a game. This was unfortunately quite expensive in AMS2's case, but I didn't feel like nitpicking every purchase. That's obviously a personal choice though.

The game is otherwise great. I don't use VR, but I have also heard it's pretty much the best modern option for that.

My request would be some sort of lower powered open wheel car that’s available in AC. Old Lotus. F4/F3/skippy something like that.

Tracks? I’m partial to Brand’s Hatch GP; Monza; Red Bull Ring, Imola, Laguna Seca, Monaco; Akina Downhill.
