Thanks, reminded me that I hadn't deleted my Instagram account yet.

much thanks to @gary_host_laptop for the logo design :)
Replace the native ad-riddled platform with another?
Use Proxigram It's Open Source
It doesn't seem to have a cache. That might be a useful feature
I tried it before finding imgsed but each instance had issues loading images past the first page of a user's profile. But I will check back occasionally
Beeper can apparently view Instagram, although I haven't used that feature myself.
Thanks for mentioning beeper. It's an app I've been looking for.
I was wondering how bulletproof Beeper is. Different encryption standards are a big problem, and hopefully the Digital Markets Act can help in that regard.
I've just read up on it on their own page, and at least they are fully transparent and open about this issue, which I can respect. I think there should be a big disclaimer pointing to this issue right on the landing page, because many people probably think the app can do more than is actually possible in terms of encryption.
Though if everyone used the same standard and was forced to interoperate, Beeper wouldn't need to exist anymore, so there's that.
So no real point in using it either way. Well, unless you don't care about proper e2ee. But I care, so if one of my contacts uses this app, then I'm gonna be weary of what we talk about.
How exactly? Beeper is a matrix chat with bridges to multiple mesaaging apps, I don't see any functionality beyond messaging.
apparently
I haven't used that feature myself
