Hi! Are there any criteria in place as to how this instance and its accounts federate with others? For instance, there are a few communities on feddit.de which I'd like to subscribe to, but they are not listed here, am I doing something wrong?

Hey! So, if you want to subscribe to an instance that nobody on your instance has subscribed to before, what you need to do is the following:

1 Grab the full URL (for example, https://feddit.de/c/fragfeddit)

2 Go to the Communities page

3 Search for that URL

4 Switch all search options to "All" (even "Communities")

5 Wait 5-10 seconds for your instance to pull in the community

6 Click through and subscribe!

Now all posts from that community will be pulled in from now on. I know this is a little cumbersome, hopefully the discoverability and subscribing to new communities gets easier after devs have time to work on it post-WebHook removal.

Damn… it's clear now! I was poking at things in the Communities search screen, trying URL, Communities, but apparently "All" is what I needed. Thanks a lot :)

Are you referring to Lemmy devs or the instance devs / administrators (or something else)?

I'm referring to the fact that the Lemmy devs are trying to fix some pretty major issues (WebHooks), and don't really have time for anything else (although there are now a few more contributors). Once they're done with that, they'll have time to work on other issues.

Do you have a link or anything that goes into details on this? I'm curious to read about what's going on with lemmy.

I've been following the Matrix chat and the Github issues page. There's a lot of chatter and work going on, but between that and the pull requests, you can get a pretty solid idea of what's going on.
