MODERATORS

I recently got into Formula 1 and I would like to get more into it. I downloaded the official Formula 1 app but it’s not very nice. Which apps do you guys use to follow everything Formula 1?

There's a great open source app for keeping up with the official F1 stuff. https://github.com/BrightDV/BoxBox

The app I never knew I wanted. Thanks!

It's not a mobile app, but the program Multiviewer for F1 is absolutely essential for watching races. You can have live timings, track map and data channel up at the same time - combined with cockpit cameras - and sync it all up. It works with VODs, too, if you're watching after the fact.

I got all my news from reddit… and now from lemmy.

But if you like podcast, there are also many good ones, which also cover all the news. These are the once I’ve subscribed to in no particular order:

  • The Race F1 (+ Tech Show)
  • EngineBreaking (*)
  • Missed Apex (*)
  • BBC Chequered Flag
  • F1: Beyond the Grid
  • F1 Nation

(*) these are my favourite ones

I basically listen to them (and also other podcasts or audiobooks) instead of music.

If you like the news on the offical F1 app but just not the app, there is an open source app that duplicates the news which is on F- Droid called Box, Box! The news duplicates without issues but the standing are broken usually. Be careful of race times too as this often shows in another time zone for me. You can still view race timings during the race and this loads much faster than the offical app - if you subscribe then the extra timings are not viewable in the app.

If you're on telegram, this is a good channel: https://t.me/allthingsf1

Sky Sports News is good for F1 with reports, news and opinion pieces.

If you are on iPhone then Apple News is good too as it pulls in stories from all across the web.

This is a really great app by a great developer (not me) https://apps.apple.com/za/app/race-capture/id6447809940

I use the two F1 apps. One for news and upcoming race times and the other for watching the race and documentaries.

I do pay the monthly subscription.
