We're moving home soon... Any suggestions on where to get boxes cheap?

Went to bunnings but they want $4 each for some flimsy shit cardboard boxes.

I've seen people post in local Facebook groups asking for moving boxes and they usually get a pretty good response.

Yeah, with all the online shopping now we're forever throwing out boxes. Most of them aren't very good for long term use, but they should get you through one move.

Good idea, will get the wife to post a message.

Even some of the bigger retailers could be worthwhile if you’ve any relationships you can leverage. My last move featured a lot of JB boxes.

Bunnings stores have a bunch of free boxes near the checkouts. They do have a 2 box per person limit though so you might need to make a couple trips or have some friends.

Alternatively, most bottleshops should have a ton of small but strong boxes available.

Yes this is the best way to do it. My Bunnings has never imposed a limit that I know of but can be hard to get good sized ones. I’ve had luck in the past also going to staff at big stores (Kmart, Big W, etc) and asking for any they have.

Also ask on local freecycle email groups

Ages ago (so things may have changed), we called around to all the appliance sellers (Harvey’s, Good guys etc). Got plenty from there.

Had a friend call their local Coles and pick up a stack of boxes from them.

Have a chat to your local pet supply store, like Petbarn or similar. They go through plenty of appropriate sized boxes.

LPT: Buy the big plastic tubs from Bunnings and then return them once you’re done moving. Half their tubs are scratched and scuffed anyways so I’m sure they don’t mind

Hadn't thought of that, might need to keep some of the stuff packed up for over a year though, so don't know whether bunnings will let you return after that much time.

If the stuff is going to stay in the box for a long time, something like a plastic tub might be a better choice anyway. Will better protect whatever you have in it.
