& I’m doing pretty good! The wefwef app has done a great job of recreating the Apollo experience and has made it a lot easier to not want to go and download the Reddit app. The more active it gets here, the easier it’ll be. How are you guys doing so far? Have you found an App for Lemmy that you prefer the most yet?

I desperately miss RIF, and I have a community I care about on Reddit that I mod.

But I'm going to see if I can rebuild it here. I think Reddit has basically committed suicide.

I like that I have yet to encounter the N-word unlike some other "reddit alternatives"

I'm surprised at how easy it was to make the switch. Now that servers are stabilizing here this is pretty much a very similar experience.

95% of posts that contain active discussion and more than 3 comments are about Lemmy and/or Reddit implosion. I would love to see a pivot to more engagement in other subjects. I do enjoy reading about lemmy and participating in the discussion, but would be good to see the users disperse a little bit :)

Start to find your niche communities and contribute. Everyone complains that c/all has so many posts about reddit migration, but my subscribed feed has hundreds of posts all relating to content and communities I want to engage with.

Like reddit, it takes a while to curate your Lemmy subscribed feed to have content you want to engage with. But the more we all create the communities we want to see and contribute to them the more the site develops a well rounded content stream.

Liftoff seems like a good one. I honestly had so many issues with the way Reddit operates, and the experience was so horrible on many subredddits. I love the idea of a decentralized service where there can be entirely independent instance operators. It's been liberating to start over with these small forums here. Once more people join in it'll be so much better than Reddit ever could have been.

Boost + my NSFW account were my Fap App. I almost didn't know what to do with myself.

The API changes made this man go nofap. Let us know when you get superpowers.

I had been using reddit daily for about 10 years for a multitude of reasons. It was a great place to waste time, an amazing tool to get help on niche subjects and a wonderful way to learn… but recently it suffered from it’s own success and generally felt more and more of a cesspool…

I am grateful of the events that transpired, because it has forced me to find an alternative, and evolve my knowledge on different options. I had no idea what Lemmy was yesterday, nor federation or anything… I was thrust into the option of stick with something that was getting bad, or figure out how to do something new that has the potential to be even better! I’m glad I went into uncharted territory.

It’s a little bittersweet that while lemmy does not have the scope that reddit had, resulting in less of a pool to get help from… the prospect of what might become with Lemmy is more than enough to keep me away from reddit.

So far Jerboa has been the best one for me, I tried wefwef but wasn't a big fan (and couldn't work out how to uncensor NSFW content across the board, very annoying haha).

But Boost is coming out at some point! I'm really looking forward to it!! <3

So far I'm doing okay, just tough with how slow everything runs and all the network errors and stuff, but it's early days so I'm patient :-)

I'm using WefWef. It much slower than RiF but the growing pains must be absolutely massive.

I moved over here a while ago. Doing great so far, loving the community, though I'm doing a lot of lurking at the moment cause I have to keep reinstalling my app for testing.

Currently using thunder, working on contributing to the project cause I liked the early alpha so much. New updates come frequently, looks nice, functions great, cross platform.

Lemmy is keeping me busy, and is like how Reddit should have been

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I could easily see this being a more seamless switch than we feared. So far I am hopeful!

After a few days without Reddit, I don't miss it that much for daily browsing. But it'll probably still be useful to find people with the same PC issues as me and find a solution 😎

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

I refuse to download the app from Reddit. If they would have done some good faith negotiation and somehow still didn't work out for Apollo, I would have gone with it. But now, fuck them, fuck spez and fuck the power hungry mods that supported him.

I am happy to call Lemmy and specially lemmy.world my new home. We are in this together and we will push this project further.

I've only tried one Lemmy app so far, Jerboa. It's fine...

I'm still struggling with the muscle memory of opening baconreader pretty much all the time. I spent some time on Reddit too, on my PC, and it's kinda bland.... Since everyone seems to be here. But this place is still ramping up, so I'm interested to see what happens in the coming weeks.

I’m still on a browser. I tried to get into the Memmy beta today, but its full. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Christian moves Apollo to Lemmy’s API. I’d gladly pay for the one time thing again.

15 year club on reddit. I've parted a few weeks ago and not coming back.

I hope lemmy gets good and better content.

Im still waiting for sync for lemmy. It's the main reason I'm making the switch. I can't use reddit without the sync app and I'm looking forward to using lemmy with it.

Enjoy the fediverse !

Checking in at 2 weeks without Reddit, and I'm so happy that this forcing function got me to discover Lemmy and the fediverse. I enjoy it so much more, I'm browsing multiple instances and it feels like the days I discovered Reddit.

As for apps, just FYI Lemmy and KBin are progressive web apps so you can click "add to home screen" and get an app for free, I've been using it that way exclusively so far and it works well enough for me.

Killing Bacon Reader was a deal breaker for me. Not looking back at all.

Former RIF user here. I rather not use reddit than use the official spyware app

I uninstalled sync when Reddit committed suicide. Using connect now and it's pretty good. Slowly building things back up and communities are coming to life. I don't think Reddit will ever recover.

I've mostly lurked so far, but I was compelled to create an account after seeing how much responses on assorted lemmy communities remind me of the old phpbb days. Significantly more cordial and well thought out than the average reddit/twitter/what have ye replies. I'm pretty optimistic about the fediverse now that I've experienced it despite initially not thinking much of it; it seems to combine the best elements of web 1.0 and 2.0.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

It'll be nice if more and more migrate over.

There's something amusing about opening up what's almost a Reddit clone a day after and seeing content and subs that would have been exactly like it was on Reddit here instead.

As long as momentum continues, we may see more and more leaving Reddit for what's nearly the same thing with a lot less BS.

I just hope Lemmy servers and infrastructure can handle the growing popularity, especially once there's popular native clients that switch from Reddit to it.

Would be very happy if spez ends up having killed his own platform in future retrospection though.

I've been here since the blackout and I haven't touched Reddit for at least a week. It feels closer to what the web used to be when it was cool.

I'm using the web along with Jerboa.

I'm happy that boost for Reddit is still working, but I know that once boost for lemmy is released I'll never look back at reddit. Fuck u/spez for how he treated his users

I feel no desire whatsoever to go look at reddit. I don't know, reddit just feels lame now

Using Connect for Lemmy and loving it. I'm not that much of a social media addict, but I would check reddit using Baconreader once daily for news and politics and cat pictures. Speaking of which, the number of cat communities on here is way too low, but I also think a lot of the cat subs on Reddit were like 75% repost bots. I still enjoyed them.
