Was replacing '24' with '25' too much work, or something?

They're replacing their in-house engine with Unity, so SI has actually been rebuilding the whole game in a new engine. From what's been going around, they ran into issues with Unity's UI tools.
But still, can't they just reuse the last codebase and just add the relevant assets for 25? Or at least create a DLC for the next year?
They said they don’t want to do that because they’d be pulling resources away from the new game.
Also, by Sports Interactive just updating the old game, they will be admitting that they could just do that on a yearly basis, rather than releasing a “new” game with a few extra features.
I also think it’s not as simple as just updating assets. They’ve got official licenses for Premier League and all its clubs for FM25, and I imagine those licenses may be based on stipulations that they assets must appear in a particular way which matches the new game, not the old one. It’s probably too much work.
That's actually kinda depressing. Unity is a shitty company.
shitty company, but a lot of game devs have experience on it, and doesnt have the difficulty of getting a new hire to learn a new engine.
Oh no! Anyways...
