Hey that's cool!

If your current ceo is still in place when it's time for me to renew, I'm gone.

Great tip! Thanks!

Mullvad is amazing. Never tried Posteo.

Why them? Are their CEOs anti-Trump?

[–] Senal 11 points 2 months ago

I don't think anti-trump is a strict requirement.

Not publicly and directly messaging a known rapist and convicted felon to let him know you think he's doing a good job "standing up for the little guy" would probably suffice.

What have I missed? Who is the CEO and what did they do?

Thanks, was seriously considering Proton mail. Think I’m just going to set up my own mail server.

Think I’m just going to set up my own mail server.

Don’t, it’s not worth it for a multitude of reasons.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

set up my own mail server.

Unless you are like a very skilled computer expert, don't.

Use an encrypted mail provider + custom domain.

I just set up one on Tuta (#NotSponsored), and bought a two year for a .com domain.

I don't know coding, I suck at most techy things. I managed to set it up by just... following instructions.

Register domain + Payment.

Go to Tuta, get premium plan.

Go to Tuta's settings, set up Custom Domain.

Copy Paste all the DNS configuration stuff.

Voila, easy.

If Tuta goes rogues, I'd find another one, change settings.

If domain registar goes bad, I'd transfer it to another one.

TLDR: You're better off just using a mail provider + Custom Domain

This is plan B, thanks for posting it, do you get adverts on Tuta? I’m going to try the Futo private cloud tutorial, and see if I can set something up with that.

Tuta has no averts. It basically the same as Proton. But one key thing I noticed, is that you cannot import or export your keys (as far as I know), where as with Protonmail, you could download your key, or upload your own generated keys to replace their key.

When Proton and Tuta (formerly known as Tutanota) were the biggest 2 that reddit recommended. And they were the two that are on the top of my mind.

I honestly have no clue what I'm doing, I just googled a bit, Namecheap and Cloudflare are the top two I found with WHOIS Privacy, But cloudflare is what I heard of so I'm just using this for now, don't wanna do an entire week of research, domains seems to be transferable to another registar later. WHOIS Privacy means, if someone looks up your domain name, they can't find your name or address (but law enforcement probabaly could with a warrant). You don't want people showing up in your front door so you need the "Whois Privacy" feature. Theres also Njalla, which would hide your identity, but its officially registered under their founder's name, so you gain privacy, but you also have to trust the guy to not steal your domain.

Or you could attempt to use fake names and addresses, but I'm not sure about the legak implications, so I'm not trying that, at the risk of losing my domains lol.

So I have like 2 domains right now (maybe more later), I just type the domain in Tuta, they give a list of "DNS" stuff you have to copy paste into your DNS settings. So I just google "Cloudflare DNS setting" and then copy-paste each thing into Cloudflare, then wait a bit, and Tuta shows it being set up, then click continue. And its done.

There's also a "catch all" mailbox, which is basically just, you can makebuo any email with your domain and it'll go to your inbox. Like you went to a new store in town, and they ask for your email, you give them [email protected] and it'll work, as with anything you put in front of the @ sign.

I never watched or read any tutorials, I kinda just... trial and error lol.

My exact thoughts, except I cancelled my auto-renewal and emailed support asking for a refund (and mentioning why). This way they find out sooner than later that this type of action is losing them business and can take corrective actions. I will likewise return if they change up their leadership in the future.

It's not "damage control", they've been doing this sort of thing for many years.

[–] [email protected] 35 points 2 months ago

I’ve been with them since the beginning, and they’ve been doing donations like this for years as part of their annual raffles.

I assume they are referring to the CEO getting all hot and heavy with Trump in the company's official messaging.

Their unilateral support for the orange nazi. Before someone says it's blown out of proportion let me say this. The CEO of Proton stated his personal beliefs, then doubled down via Official Proton Accounts aka: supporting the orange nazi is unironically their political stance now.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

actions >> words

Edit: I'd rather a guy that loves Trump, but is accepting in person and spends their time volunteering on the weekend, than a self-proclaimed leftist that spends their time criticizing everyone while not doing shit about anything, and using their politics to justify their stealing habit. The former can be reasoned with. The latter is just using leftism as an excuse.

[–] Senal 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Preferring a theoretical instance of a person over a contrived (though admittedly occasionally real) example makes for a good soundbite, not necessarily a real option though.

Or more succinctly, a literal trump loving person who is also accepting is a unicorn with some serious cognitive dissonance.

A "radical" leftist who is also a shitty person is a real thing that can exist.

Comparisons between real things and imaginary things, aren't good comparisons.

Edit : where did "stealing habit" come from I can't find any reference anywhere else? Genuine question, I may have missed it.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I guess he is talking about "handouts".

Norway taxes the oil industry in 78% so they can give "handouts" to their people....that miserable country of thieves...

Radical leftism made Norway one of the worst countries in the world to live in.

(/s.....because it's necessary.)

[–] Senal 2 points 2 months ago

Ah, that tracks.

I'll wait and see if they reply, maybe it's something else.

[–] Tramort 2 points 2 months ago

Totally agree.

Fuck that fascist dickhead.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Oh for sure.
