As a former plant nursery employee, it's soil when it's in a container, and dirt once it hits the floor.

Stuff that hasn't undergone pedogenesis. If it's under your fingernails or on your car, you can call it dirt ;)

I've known a few people who've undergone pedogenesis, so far one's in the state prison and the others are probably gonna be there within a decade

Soiled = covered in dirt. Got it!

How would you explain the term "soiled themselves" for when someone pisses their own pants?

Edit: accidentally did Spoiled instead of Soiled. My bad!

Spoiled:
To be treated to a desire that one would normally be denied.

Dirt is the accumulation of everything that used to be alive since the beginnings of life on this planet, broken down over millenia and some of it also including inorganic materials, stacked on top of each other and compressed.

Remember when we didn't have the bacteria to breakdown certain organic structures so trees just kinda sat there for decades

[–] [email protected] 3 points 12 hours ago

Many many many decades, they sat around until they became coal!

Decades?

  • motions vaguely at carbon deposits across the planet *

Decades, tens of millions of years, what's the difference?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 12 hours ago

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 hours ago

Tens of millions of years is really just millions of decades.
