Am I the only one with a bunch of communities I'd like to join but with a status still on "Subscribe pending".

I'm still new to all this and I'm really loving it so far, but man, so much stuff is confusing and counter-intuitive. Isn't the point of having federated instances being able to talk to each other?

Someone told me that this is because the big instances are practically DDOSed by Reddit refiugees and the servers can't process the subscriptions fast enough. And yes, I see the same pohenomenon.

Makes sense. Still, there isn't gonna be a real and strong "reddit migration" if people can't subscribe and enjoy communities in here. I saw posts yesterday about instances doing server upgrades, which is nice. If that's the issue I'd be glad to contribute financially but they have to make those upgrades fast! There's an opportunity window here and I fear the average user coming from Reddit isn't gonna be patient.

If the servers go down, nobody will enjoy anything. Reddit can maintain as many impatient users as they will. If you are seeking to win some game or revenge agains reddit I think you might be in the wrong place.

btw the same happened(but worse) in mastodon and mastodon is like 100x more active right now than when the migration happened, so yes, give them a few days hahah

I found that my pending subs just sat. But they all work if you just click the sub button a few more times. Click once up unsub the pending sub, and then click again to sub.

Thanks, that was helpful and it did work.

Thanks, that seems to have worked for me as well.

Same. Sits there as pending but I’m actually subbed.

I have that issue too. But, clicking on the community does show the posts and I seem to be able to post comments. So I don’t know what functionality is actually “pending”.

The way it works is that when u are in a pending subscription state, your local instance knows to deliver you the content and you are effectively subscribed, when you go into the subscribed tab the communities that are pending will be populated. The only thing is that the communities instance has not acknowledged your subscription and does not know to add to the subscriber count of the community till it is processed

How do you get to that screen? Is it mobile accessible?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

In a browser it's right at the top, in "Communities", then you select "All". If you're on mobile you just have to clic the three parallel lines in the upper right corner, then "Communities".

Yeah happened to me too. I think it’s just all the traffic. Mine eventually went through.
