What you're suggesting is on the level of Walking Dead deciding to no longer have zombies, for Marvel to retire the concept of super heroes altogether, or for John Wick movies to no longer have guns.
Besides Nintendo's had other characters in harsh spotlights before. Jynx and Porygon for example, still regularly feature in Pokemon games, and they didn't retire Typhlosion either even with the Pokemon leaks. Actually they've literally never retired any Pokemon ever.
At worse they'll just block people on twitter who share Luigi Mangione memes using the Nintendo character.
As for renaming Luigi. laughs They literally have multiple spinoffs named after him (Mario & Luigi, Luigi's Mansion, Dr. Luigi), it'd be a PR and branding nightmare. It'd be like changing the name of America itself.
If Luigi were a minor side character (like Toadsworth, a character they actually did retire for unknown reasons), maybe, but uhh... no.
