Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either [email protected] or [email protected].
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email [email protected]. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try [email protected] or [email protected]
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

Burglary of my house, kidnapping, missing person, missing vehicle presumed stolen (after checking any other options), and in case a certain few unstable people I know showed up at my front door.
I've debated calling the non-emergency number to ask what the speed limit was on an unmarked stretch of road, but decided not to.
Swedish police are usually trustworthy, but they are underfunded and love to close investigations.
I have called the emergency number three times in my life and the non emergency number a few times.
I called the emergency number once for a fire in a bin during a dry summer, they were not really interested.
The second time was this summer, I hit an animal when driving at night during the late summer, since I couldn't see what animal it was and some animal are required to be reported, I did so.
The third time was when I heard a sharp bang behind me and saw a light flash reflected off of a bridge I was driving passed, I called and reported a possible gunshot.
I did call the non emergency number to report an open door at a school that was closed for the day.
When you want someone to get hurt.
If you're ok with the possibility of someone (potentially you) dying, call the cops
Never if you're in the US. You call the cops and now you have two problems instead of one and the new problem is guaranteed to be trigger happy.
If I thought introducing an upredictable and aggressive person with a gun was better than not doing that.
