I mean, people will die as a direct result of this election. It's not hyperbole.
And people will die irregardless of who wins. Its either gonna be the crazies freaking out trying to start CW2, or its gonna be the crazy in office who will cause more deaths for years.
Different people will die, so the result matters to those people, their family, and their friends.
You will have better results posting this to https://lemmy.world/c/politicaldiscussion
No they would not. They might be in the wrong for posting here, but it clearly will get more views and engagement being on this sub.
Looking at the rules, there's nothing explicitly wrong anyway. It would be silly if there were imo. Political discussion is part of politics, and equating political news articles with the whole of politics is inadvertently disingenuous. But I can be fairly pedantic sometimes.
I don’t know why you’d feel relief after the election though. Worst case, I don’t even want to talk about. Best case, we still have a lot of work to do against a lot of opposition.
yes i often find it annoying when the system of democratic egalitarian democracy is under threat of destruction, and the world's largest superpower, economically and militarily, may once again fall under the control of fascist destructive insanity. the last time that happened over a million americans died from a purposefully sandbagged and inept global pandemic response. it's all so terribly distressing.
Don’t worry you may not have to worry about ever voting again depending on how the election goes.
I got bad news for you, buddy: as revenue is off the charts due to this whole horse race bullshit. And I’ll be genuinely shocked if the fascists magically disappear after next January. This is, tragically, the new normal.
I hate it too.
Pretty optimistic of you to think it will die down after election day.

Well there's roughly a 50% chance Trump will win, and his economic policies are projected to cause an 8.9% GDP drop in one year, basically causing a depression, and he's promised many times now to make himself a dictator and end all future elections, use the military to target his political opponents...
...so I'm sure that won't cause any tension, and all of this overblown rhetoric will finally settle down and we'll all just be peachy when we are no longer burdened with the responsibility of having to vote ever again.
If your in a position where the life or death terms have to be imposed or impressed on you, then that means you probably belong to one of the privileged classes who are probably going to be fine no matter who wins.
For people in our position, the expectation of empathy can be annoying. Like how I'm annoyed that you are expecting empathy now.
When he was president, I remember waking up every morning with a very real feeling of existential dread - what bullshit had he decided during drug- and tv-fueled insanity in the middle of the night? I hate the election season as well, but this may be the last vid times we have.
Also, their plans and infrastructure remain in place, regardless of if he loses. This is going to be every election from now on, until one day we stop having meaningful elections.
Or we vote the Right out of power.
Well as long as the likes of fox news and newsmax exist that will never happen. Fox was literally created for that purpose as Roger Ailes, who helped create it, has said of Watergate: if we had a friendly media outlet Nixon would never have had to resign.
He was right. Trump should have been impeached, but Fox gives Republicans all the cover they need.
Trump was impeached, twice
There they will get promptly replaced by the DNC in their ever evolving shift to the right
That’s…wishful thinking. It’s never “over”, you have to keep vigilant and keep moving for progressive change where needed, or stabilize where not. People who want to centralize power and authority never “rest”, democracy and freedoms are always up for grabs
