Oh yeah? Explain this, flat earthers!

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Actually not level, the right side is slightly higher

Round earth prevails again, even in the face of another round earther! Take THAT you heathen!

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago

All round earthers suck. We all suck!

It’d have to be. Otherwise how could the ground be level if we were on the side of a sphere?

Check and mate. 🫳🎤

I'm telling you, turtles. Turtles all the way down.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And elephants standing on top

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And old ass lazy light that's in no rush to get anywhere.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ok, the turtles I believe I understand the turtle thing (Kachhapa), maybe. But the elephants and the old ass lazy light?

What?

Discworld. The light is slowed down by having to ooze through all the magic.

Oh cool! I’ve heard great things about Pratchett. Maybe I’ll give the series a whirl. Thanks!

There are many resources online regarding reading order / starting out suggestions (e.g. https://www.discworldemporium.com/reading-order/). However I think the stories are usually light-hearted enough that you might as well start in the middle of a sub-series.

Yeah. Terry reestablishes the world in each book.

I enjoy how you had to hold it very specifically this way around so that none of the spirit level bubbles were in the middle.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago

Well, where I live in the world (North Carolina, USA), I would imagine I’m somewhere between the middle of the ball (equator) and the top of the ball (Arctic). So yeah, that happens to be a position where none of the bubbles are in the middle. 😊

Now that's ground level!

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago

Seems like a level headed maneuver.

Actually can happen if the little ampule is misaligned in the housing. Easy to test for, turn the level around, if it reads level one way but not another it's not a good level. Relatedly: Don't buy spirit levels or measuring tools at Harbor Freight.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago

Maybe all the bubbles are wrong

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Anything is level if your level is small enough

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Anybody is high if your level is low enough...

Anything is low if your level is high enough

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Can't you come up with something new?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago

Anything is new if your age is old enough.

Confucius say: man who stands on toilet is high on pot.

my two cents are, for what it's worth,

that no-one really believes in a flat earth.

they just revel in creating dissension

and crave all the ensuing attention,

so let's let it remain in that realm of mirth.

Nah.

So about 8 years ago I’d never heard of such a thing as flat earth and I’m out with a friend getting twisted up and he says he has a gaff we can go to and he can sell a bit of coke and we can get sniffed up there too.

We get to this shitty flat (not judging I’ve lived in shitty pads and after all we are getting fucked up so can’t judge) and there I meet quite possibly the most intellectually challenged 3 people I’ve ever met (again I’m not genius but I do like to think I have critical thought).

This one girl starts chatting to me about flat earth, not in a way just to be different, but genuinely believed it. Imagine my face when I’m like this can’t be happening, and start to question why it is flat which they can’t really articulate and I just wanted the world to end to get me out of this conversation.

Point being stupid people exist and will believe this shit. Even if the most prominent people are doing it for a grift.

Nope - I've known true believers - while contrarianism is a big motivator, the beliefs are sincere... and from that level of conspiracism, it's a short walk to Nazism.
