News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

It's just Reddit centralising control to the admins, and cracking down on dissent. It's funny how much it mirrors real life instances of countries sliding into authoritarianism. But obviously this is just a website and doesn't have such severe consequences.

Huffman and the Reddit admins are scummy bastards, and all decent people should leave that platform immediately, the same as Twitter.

I get why mods care about the unique spaces they've made, like askhistorians or something. But why tf would anyone at this point give free labor to mod funny or any of the other generic monster subs? Make the pigboy police the nazis on his platform to keep advertisers happy

the defaults seem to be all bots anyway

I guess it really got under Steve Hoffman’s skin.

I think they are preparing for something god awful.

Getting rid of old.reddit I guarantee it. It's only a matter of time

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

i always saw a ton of people saying they'd leave reddit if they took away old.reddit but i feel like that wont happen

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

I was saying that. Ended up leaving ahead of schedule.

It never happens. I remember how so many people said they were gonna leave Reddit with the API nonsense. Annnnddd they're still there. lol

all the ''''protest''''' did was say 'if we dont use it for 3 days surely spez will freak out', they couldnt even boycott the site for a week lmfao. is reddit a severe addiction?

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 month ago

Given it was the only easy way to protest something as community moderators you bet!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Almost certainly this. It’s on par with what Reddit has been doing the last few years.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nah, something awful is long gone

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Something wicked this way comez

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

His actual lizard skin, or the human costume he wears?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Either way it's got to itch.

[–] [email protected] 33 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Wait. I just saw another post about thousands of bot accounts joining new subs. Is this to ensure "le Reddit army" can still appear active?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ah, a fellow le gentlesir in the wild!

tips hat

Lol, if you don't get it, you're not a Redditor. ;)

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Interesting to see if anyone will mention Lemmy

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I wonder if they censor mentions of Lemmy or if all the people that left for Lemmy are gone and no one noticed. Like, why are people still there and putting up with more of Spez's bullshit? Do they not know they can just leave?

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 month ago

"everyone is there already" is a the reason I see the most

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I am not on Reddit, but, would making a subreddit private lead to difficulty in training the AI and collecting data?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

sorta, by reducing or eliminating new activity on that sub.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

No. They have an api.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Honestly I'm just waiting for for the other shoe to drop. This is the exploding pager before the ground offensive.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Old.Reddit.com is next to be killed..

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So even less people want to go to that site?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Yep! I love it. Remember not everyone used their phone for reddit but a fuckton still go to old reddit.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Kinda like that time the king of England took away Massachusetts' legislatures. But I have a feeling the king here will fair better this go around.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

George’s problem was that he was merely a king, and not a god

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Hopefully he won't, Reddit may seem more powerful in this scenario, but they aren't invulnerable to threats or attacks. Hopefully enough angry people decide to do what's necessary when the time comes.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Can community owners still delete entire communities, or this action also needs approval from Reddit staff?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

They were never able to delete communities.
