Perfect Blue by Satoshi Kon is fantastic.
The first time I saw that movie, it messed with my head. Definitely worth a watch.
I think I saw "One Cut of the Dead" with subtitles on a plane, so I assume subtitles are an option. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7914416/
I didn't expect to like it, but ended up liking it by the end of the movie.
Casshern (the 2004 live film not the original anime)
If you liked Squid Game, consider Oldboy
Squid game is Korean and I saw clips of that but could never get into it as It didn't interest me at all
It also feels like the internet over-hyped squid game past what it originally was
It was good, but I don't ever want to watch it again. Same for Oldboy. And I'm not in for season 2.
I'm aware it's Korean but I stand by my comparison.
e......maybe there are some probability that Japanese movie is famous for tokyohot

If you're ok with abstract cinema:
Tetsuo the Iron Man (1989)
Visual appeal:
Metropolis (2001)
Not Sci-Fi, but one of my favorite films of all time:
Cure (1997)
