This reminds me of Outer Wilds, and now I am thinking about how awesome an Outer Wilds demake would be :)

Thanks for starting this community. This one is probably my favourite, but your sword shine tutorial is also really interesting.

I've long nursed a temptation to make pixel art. What program do you use or recommend getting started with?

I personally use aseprite. Tends to be what's used by the vast majority of pixel artists and is great. For just starting out though theres a free site called piskel you can use that has basic tools
