Why is extra buff Korra arguing with some anime girl about science?

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.

The wiser people are so full of doubts because we are wise.

Woah buddy, and what makes you sure you're part of "we" there?

You have to drop the fake humility after years and years of continuously being disappointed everywhere you go.

If anyone's interested in the answer to "Where's science's source?", here's a useful overview: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/scientific-method/

I'm going to be skeptical of came to me in a dream unless it's some intrapersonal revelation. But then I'm skeptical of scientific research until I understand how the data was produced.

Funny thing, some scientific discoveries came to the scientists in a dream

[โ€“] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

But then those would only be the hypotheses, they would have to test those "revelations" and analyze the results of those tests to get a conclusion. And that's science, my friend.

Dream a hypothesis that gets confirmation is pretty cool tho.

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Yes, but at the time the discovery was a hypothesis. The scientist then tested that hypothesis to see if the model worked.

Is there a r/gatekeepingyuri community on Lemmy?

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

How can I follow replies to your comment and make sure if someone links to one I can get there asap

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

lemmyverse does not know of any community with gatekeeping in the name: https://lemmyverse.net/communities?query=gatekeeping&nsfw=null / https://lemmyverse.net/kbin/magazines?query=gatekeep&order=followers&nsfw=null (kbin search just in case)

this excludes .world because their API is broken due to DDOS mitigations, so someone might want to search there manually just in case (but honestly we all know this is the perfect instance for it)

edit: the URLs are broken because of a lemmy bug which is already reported.
