People who “catch up” on missed sleep at the weekend may have up to a 20% lower risk of heart disease compared with those who do not, according to a study.

The findings, presented at a meeting of the European Society of Cardiology, looked at data from 90,903 adults taking part in the UK Biobank project, a database that holds medical and lifestyle records of 500,000 people in the UK.

Sounds like an excuse for employers to overwork employees to the point of exhaustion and sleep deprivation, and just say it's OK cuz you can catch up on your weekend. Fuck this shit.

Uh huh.

And how does that compare to people who actually get the right amount of sleep every single day?

This is just reducing the damage of chronic sleep deprivation, it doesn’t negate the damage. The sleep deprivation is still very harmful even if “catching up” makes it slightly less bad.

Let’s normalize proper sleep, and make this chronic deprivation as much of a bizarre outlier as it should be in the modern world.

OR! I could go to sleep at a reasonable hour on work nights instead of staying up watching crime dramas while playing mindless games on my phone.. Naw... not gonna do that..
