Mabuhay at maligayang pag-alis sa Lemmy! ✈️

An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! 🇵🇭

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

Paalam, Lemmy! (lemmy.world)

As you can tell from the 1 visitor average per day for the last year (aka. me lol), this community is pretty much dead. No one is reading this as well, but in case you wander here while bored — I'm sticking a fork on Lemmy PH. No more monthly threads or news posts, at least from me.

It started out strong and was brimming with potential, but once r/PH reopened, 90% of the posters made a beeline back to the sub. The rest who decided to stick, slowly packed their bags as well. I don't appreciate being made a joke in Discord, but hey, such is life and the reality of protests.

Thanks for giving this community a shot! It was a fun first month or so! I'm focusing my attention to UndustFixation now, which has been keeping me busy outside of work, actually. Stay safe!

Edit: Shout out to u/gradenko_2000 who saw the protests as performative and took it a step further by not going back to Reddit at all and refusing repeated invites to Lemmy.

How interesting this has just now shown up on my 'Everything' feed.

Good for you giving it a shot, maybe it'll keep going at some point!

You tried, and what you tried was a better alternative. Good on you.

I was indeed wandering here while bored, never interacted with your sub but found your message heartwarming. It's nice to see the humans behind an online community, the things that work and the things that don't. Good luck with your next projects!

It was hard, as I myself don’t start topics :( Maybe I am “trained” by reddit that when I start threads, I get attacked or banned. This it not specific to r/ph page. I got banned from a “music enthusiast” reddit group, when my first post was asking for recommendations on headphones or something.

Going back to the topic. Does this mean this community is officially closed and will be deleted? I don’t think I’ll go back to reddit even if this community closes. Yes, I’ll still be sad, but I’m sticking to my decision to leave reddit.

Community will remain open. I just won't be starting anymore monthly chat threads or talking to myself.

Hey, i understand that feeling well. I run a Malaysia instance with only me as admin, everyone pack their bag and gone back to reddit once the blackout is over. Most act if nothing happened. But i do understand, in their perspectives, lemmy is way slower than reddit, doomscrolling at that time is not achievable, no app to use, the frontend is subpar, it's just inferior experience. Used to be so enthusiastic about this project too, but without engagement 99% of the time, the emptiness is deafening. Props to those who keep posting though.

I hope it grows!

Don't worry, though; no matter what happens afterward, this hub of ours' here to stay, as an alternate local coffee shop, now run by us fellow customers and curators!

Siyanga pala, pareho rin akong Jup mula sa ngayo'y-lubog nang kbin.social, sa mga hindi pa nakakilala rito ehehehe ;D

Yeah, to be honest.. I've never interacted with reddit that much, so when I used Lemmy, it's a bit hard to change that attitude, since my main social media always has been Youtube (Alt sites don't have as many of the interesting content creators I watch, especially educational and philosophical channels) So I've been drifting on and off Lemmy, thought hopefully it grows, I just wish I can spend more time helping a small community, but I got IRL (haha hay nako ang nakaka-stress ang paaralan talaga) stuff and other creative communities have only a small presence or no presence here, unfortunately. Even now, I might just drift off later, and forget I had a Lemmy account, so.. good luck, I guess, and we'll see what happens! (Hopefully mabuti haha)

Re gradenko_2000, I get the link between the Reddit protest and being inactive on Reddit. I became inactive on Reddit too due to the Reddit api thing. But I can't figure out the link between the Reddit protest and refusing repeated invites to Lemmy.

I don’t appreciate being made a joke in Discord, but hey, such is life and the reality of protests.

Sina @sarcasticookie at u/choco_mallows ba may pakana nito? Not surprised if yes, those people are gutter trash down to the core

The rest who decided to stick, slowly packed their bags as well.

Some of them would have stayed if you engaged with them especially when one of them sent you a DM on this platform. Ignoring them probably didn't help.
