I try not to body shame people but wtf is that

[–] [email protected] 58 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (3 children)

Doing Steroids and not working out. Edit: HGH to be precise. And also for legal reasons: I just personally think so, I don't know for sure.

Whats the difference between a hormone and a steroid?

[–] [email protected] 13 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

You gotta pay by the hour to make a hormone.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago

And I ain't never paid a garbanzo to bean in my mouth

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 weeks ago

Alternate explanation:

Hormone: Pretty much any chemical your body uses for intra-body signaling. Signaling in this case can be anything from dumping adrenaline in order to move blood preferentially to the muscles, to the production of estrogen in order to promote cell growth in certain organs.

Steroid: A particular class of compounds grouped by the existence of a particular quartet of carbon atom rings inside each of the molecular structures. They have a very wide range of roles across the tree of life. Examples include, but are not limited to: testosterone, cholesterol, ergosterol, and progesterone.

Steroid (colloquial meaning): Pretty much any performance enhancing drug, including hormones and actual steroids.

In this case, nothing. High dose testosterone is a hormone, hgh is a hormone. Both are PEDs (performance enhancing drugs). Now, the difference between them is a bit more interesting.

Testosterone, the original steroid, makes you big by maximizing your existing muscles (super paraphrased, as is everything I'm about to say). It's the one that gives you breasts and shrinks your balls (for those that have them).

Human growth hormone makes you big by inducing the creation of new muscle. As well as everything else. The stand outs being the heart, which you really don't want to grow, and the intestines, which gave bodybuilders roidgut.

Like I said, very paraphrased, but that's the gist of it. And doesn't touch more advanced things like tren.

In their definitions?

Hormones are messengers that communicate between cells around the entire body, and are typically released into the blood to be distributed (thus their systemic effects). This is in contrast to communicative messengers that specifically target a cell, such as neurotransmitters, or paracrine messengers, which pass signals from a cell to other nearby cells.

Steroids are one example of hormones, and are usually cholesterol derivatives. The famous steroids you are familiar with are testosterone (which has several forms) and estrogen (which has several forms). Steroids are lipid-soluble, which means they can enter your cells through the plasma membrane without needing transporters. They then interface with systems inside of your cell, and typically will cause a formed complex to move from the cytoplasm to your nucleus, where they will interface with your DNA and begin promoting a specific gene or gene series.

Other hormones include modified amino acids, such as thyroid hormone, or proteins, like insulin.

No difference at all if you’re Elon musk and you take that shit but don’t bother to actually work out

On a human timescale? No.

On a cosmic timescale? Hell yeah.

Rob Liefeld did the character design

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Is that why the feet are cropped out too?

It's critical for the aerodynamics

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 weeks ago

First thing I thought when I saw it was that he looks like he was drawn by Rob Liefeld. 😂

[–] [email protected] 21 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

My inner conspiracy theory is that Elon made the Cybertruck's shape while learning to use a modeling software, sent it to the engineers at Tesla and said "make this a car".

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 weeks ago

splines disabled.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Real question: how is he so wildly deformed?

[–] [email protected] 23 points 4 weeks ago

Idk if it's true but I remember reading that it's what happens when you take steroids but don't work out, which I'm totally willing to believe without any proof because it's 1000% something Elon Musk would do

[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 weeks ago

It seems like he is just puffing out his chest to hide his belly. Probably because he knew he was on camera.

Source: have beer belly

What in the world was going on there? Is he OK?

[–] [email protected] 32 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Is he OK?

Mentally? No.

Physically? Also no.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 4 weeks ago

Bro shaped like a deep breath.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 weeks ago

I wish there was a single day that this fucker wasn't in my feed, he thrives on attention and people are giving it to him

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 weeks ago

The longer you look at that photo the weirder he looks.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I finally got to see one of these in person! What a fucking dumb design... It's not even aerodynamic!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I've actually seen a couple. It's insane how they manage to look worse in person

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

There are a few in my town and it's really hard not to stare as they go by, even after seeing them around a bit. I imagine a few accidents have happened by now because people can't stop rubbernecking and going "Holy shit, it looks even stupider in real life!!" >> crash.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago

Is this how boomers feel when they see someone with blue hair?

Both are equally gross.

When I was a kid, I would read (among other things) X-Men novels. Wolverine wasn't as popular of a character back then, but he frequently featured prominently. A common descriptor for his character was "barrel chested."

I never really knew what that meant before.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago

Both of my dogs are barrel-chested, so I understand the concept. My 18 pound chihuahua/dachshund mix has to wear a medium-sized harness because his chest is so big.

Weird "Moonwalker" vibes.
