I don't understand why they did the USA like that, I guess they wanted to group contiguous regions but it makes for a misleading map when California GDP alone is almost equal to Texas and New York, combined.

And why include the other states that they did? Louisiana is 26th for GDP in the US, and was probably only added to get to Texas. Why not just include AZ and NM then so you can add CA? Why not just highlight the entire US so we can all go "duh" that the US has more money than everyone else?

Highly recommend people read this article about the problem with GDP: John Smith - The GDP illusion.

As a testament to how bankrupt the term is, the most productive (in GDP per capita) countries in the world, are those islands in the Caribbean the world's rich use for tax evasion.

1-I believe it, but I still want to see some sources

2-GDP (while NOT worthless) can only tell us so much and can easily be misconstrued into "all wealth ever" by those who don't understand it

3-What about off-shore tax havens? I don't have any data on hand, but I feel like a decent chunk of that 50% rests in accounts in places like Ireland, Singapore, or the Cayman Islands

4-Curious to see how California alone would affect this data

I was wondering about #4 also.

It is my assumption the map is showing three equal regions that add up to 50% of world GDP? So each colored region should amount to 16.67% of world GDP?

TIL North America is only the eastern US

It's also including only parts of China, the UK, Italy, Spain and France. My geography is not good enough to recognise the other parts of European countries.

I'm surprised California is not included in the US.

[Edited first sentence to make it clearer that it's only parts of all the listed countries that are included, e.g northern Spain, eastern China, England, etc]

Not even the UK as it looks like Scotland and Northern Ireland are left out. Not even all of Britain as the western shore isn't included??

I think UK is generally understood to mean

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly known as the United Kingdom (UK) or Britain

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom

But yes, it's only England that's highlighted.

How much more if you include California?

I like the fact that every state in my country is on this map except the one most looked down on
