Any idea how I might try to fix this? Tried rebooting but no joy. Only affects my main character - but shows anywhere his portrait should be seen: bottom bar, combat turns, party list (see image).

Can you add a custom image?

I looked around and someone posted a fix on the Steam forums:

GraveyardShift Said:
...
To Solve this Bug.
1.) When on the Level Up screen to your left you will see a button with a + and two weapons crossed just on the top right of that tab. Click it.
2.) Once you are on the Multiclass tab click cancel and Level Up Normally.
...

It looks like the thread has some non English tags but the messages are English.

Sweet, thanks. Looks like there's a couple of potential fixes in there that I can try. Shame I'm nowhere near level 5 yet to try the level up one (I guess I could go back through my saves to try and find a previous level up to test it).

Hope it work for you. Looks like the leveling up causes it somehow.

If on steam try to validate the game files

And check to see if going back to an earlier save restores it.

I think you could put in a bug report on the Larian forum too.

Good point, went back to near the start and the portrait is there. IIRC it vanished early on, then reappeared for a while, then vanished again for the last 15 hours of play.

Thats a shiny ass head, maybe too shiny? Reflection from the shine might be causing the light effect

Never had the issue when he lived in the Underdark, it's that stupid sky and its bright light that's the problem.
