I've been thoroughly enjoying the Alexandrite interface and it has what you're looking for in a collapsible menu.

!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

wow. Wish I knew about this before. Is there a list of available interfaces?
The only other one available on your instance is: https://oldsh.itjust.works/ but you could login to your instance using the alexandrite installation on the project page
thanks but how do you know what interface is available where?
If an instance has alt front ends they're usually listed in the sidebar of that instances home page :)
I just discovered Alexandrite today! It's very easy on the eye.
If you go to your profile there is a listing of your subscribed communities. I normally navigate from that.
Ok that is cool but wouldn;t be simpler if it was on the page you were viewing?

Once again I realize I'm not as far at the extreme as I think. Still feels like I have a lot though. Maybe it's because I don't have any nsfw.
The Alexandrite front-end has your subscribed communities on a sliding sidebar on the left. Maybe consider that if you're willing to try another look. IMO, the 2-column interface is very efficient so I use Alexandrite all the time.
