This is how you encourage piracy. Just let capitalists be capitalists.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 5 months ago (3 children)

How would someone go about getting a whole ass game? I've never done it.

[–] [email protected] 67 points 5 months ago (1 children)

forget about gaming, start working out, there's this really great guru I recommend called fitgirl who will really help you repack that six pack.

[–] [email protected] 57 points 5 months ago

In case it's not obvious to anyone reading, fitgirl is not a working out guru, and don't Google her directly, her site has 50 bajillion copycats with malware. Go to your neighborhood's friendly piracy community, and look for her in the guides.

If you mean you want to sail the high seas, either visit r/piracy and see the megathread or search for freemediaheckyeah

Looks like your account is on Lemmy.World, so you can't access c/piracy. I'll get you a link to the megathread.

EDIT: Nevermind, hedgehog already posted it

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Rocket jumps don't work IRL...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

There was once a time when nuclear explosions were theorized to be able to propel a rocket into orbit

[–] sukhmel 2 points 5 months ago

A rocked is kind of propelled by controlled blasts, so the problems would only be environmental and too much acceleration

[–] [email protected] 51 points 5 months ago

So they plan on putting psn crap back after things cool down

Am I crazy or does that screenshot have Japan in it? Why would a Japanese company ban a game about Japan in Japan?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 months ago

Because corporate greed has no boundaries.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Weren't they saying they had a separate version or something?

[–] [email protected] 27 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Yes, for some reason Japanese games often have a separate package on steam which includes Japanese.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It's probably just hard to include both character sets since the game was originally made in English with specific programming for Roman lettering. Same thing with GTA V. Any Chinese/Japanese/Korean characters just turned into squares.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 5 months ago

It's possible, but I doubt that is a problem these days with Unicode.

Someone mentioned something about copyright for the Japanese voice actors. That seems odd too, but it seems plausible.

Pretty sure it's not allowed to limit the sale of digital goods between EU countries. It's either limited too all or none.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

(Apparently) Sony has been pulling this shit for years, so either no one noticed or there's more to it. I wonder if perhaps any of these countries have laws restricting certain online services, which Sony doesn't follow, and thus is not allowed (as opposed to simply choosing not to offer)?

[–] [email protected] 30 points 5 months ago

It sucks they're enforcing it but at least steam is accurate now ffs

[–] [email protected] 24 points 5 months ago

How many times must we teach you this lesson, old man?

[–] [email protected] 21 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Out of the loop, but still curious... Is this due to the PSN login stuff?

[–] muhyb 34 points 5 months ago (3 children)

Yup, they made it optional for Helldivers 2 but made it mandatory for Ghost of Tsushima. And future PS releases as well.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 5 months ago

Optional for HD2 but the fact that they restricted the countries most likely means they’ll try it again.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago

That's a shitty move. I really hope it backfires.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

More particularly its mandatory if folks want to use multiplayer. Since thats all HD2 is that effectively bricks the game outside psn countries. In Ghosts case, its single player, which doesn't require it, (per their devs), but does have multiplayer elements which would require it if you use them.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Yes, Sony started enforcing a requirement to link a PSN account in order to be able to keep playing Helldivers 2. This was months after launch, after being sold in dozens of countries where people can't make PSN accounts. Sony responded by just delisting Helldivers 2 from those countries. Looks like they're doing the same thing with Ghosts of Tsushima and delisting it from countries that can't make PSN accounts.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 5 months ago (1 children)

So they stepped back the login requirement with the whole "We heard your feedback, Gamerz!" line, but are clearly getting things set up to just do it later anyway?

Wow.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 5 months ago

Typical “We are sorry you feel that way” bs.

I perceived it as: “We heard your feedback, as such we fired the community manager, and will hire a new one who will be capable of keeping the community quiet”

[–] [email protected] 17 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I haven't played any Sony game on steam, because I am waiting until I can build new PC, hopefully by the end of the year. I was planning to buy them, but not anymore. Instead I will get fit in the gym.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

That is a based decision, and something I expect you won't regret if you stick to it.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 5 months ago

Corporate cunts.

Geoblocking shouldn't be a thing, unless it's for a good reason like sanctions. It's called the Internet (International Network) for a reason. If Coca Cola can operate in nearly every country, why can't Sony?

[–] [email protected] 25 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure internet means internetwork, as in between networks. There's also intranets, which are limited access web networks.

You are right that geoblocking really shouldn't be a thing, it's existence is thanks to varying laws and regulations, and most annoyingly, IP distribution contracts.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

I’m pretty sure internet means internetwork, as in between networks.

Yes you're right. I'm one of the operators of network AS559 and we have loads of interconnections to other networks, a supermajority of those is within our small nation. The international ones do make for a lot of traffic though :-)
