We have Memmy which is pretty damn close.

[–] [email protected] 42 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Don’t forget voyager, it’s pretty much identical.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Mehhhhh. I know it’s a PWA but I’d still rather a native app.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If you’re on iOS there’s a native app in beta on TestFlight. https://testflight.apple.com/join/nWLw1MBM

Thank you! First impression of that app is really good.

Edit after a day’s use: it really scratches that itch. Smooth scrolling, looks great

Team Memmy. It’s freaking great. And the amount of updates they post to the test channel. Fantastic. It’s nice logging in once a day and seeing some cool functionality pushed out.

Was gonna say, Memmy may as well be an Apollo fork from a couple years ago.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Voyager is “cleaner” looking, but Memmy is a native app which prob trumps that. That little rando freeze on voyager gets annoying after awhile

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Voyager is getting an iOS native version. There’s a TestFlight version out right now, it’s really neat. Definitely scratches that Apollo itch.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is it truly native build with Swift? Or is it repackaged pwa?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It’s a repackaged PWA using a web view for everything, using capacitor i believe

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Agreed! Sadly, I have seen it reported that the actual app version has the random freeze as well. Hopefully that’s able to be resolved now that its an app.

[–] [email protected] 56 points 1 year ago (7 children)

voyager is basically apollo already tbh

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Doesn’t look like it’s available in the app store

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

https://vger.app it’s a web app, there is an iOS TestFlight build that fixes a few of the bugs that running in safari introduces (and it has haptics!)

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

Lemmy.world has a voyager instance right on their server. https://m.lemmy.world

Voyager is the apollo replacement, it rocks!

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's awesome, I used it for a while. But I like native apps more. Also, does it have notifications? I don't remember ever getting one.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Voyager has an app in TestFlight right now. Not sure what you consider native, but it uses the ionic framework. I stopped using the PWA on iOS due to a scrolling bug that couldn’t be fixed by the voyager dev. The ionic version seems to working well so far though!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

i heard it was submitted to play store too

Honestly, it would be an amazingly trojan-horse way to drive reddit users to Lemmy. Leave Sync for Reddit up, and then just have it be a redirect to Lemmy under the hood, maybe even use the API to "migrate" people over - if only for copying their username and some basic data.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Reddit would go after apps having Reddit in the name.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (4 children)

That was kind of the issue to begin with. That's why it's "For Reddit". Google even had this stupid naming scheme because "Reddit Is Fun" existed at the time, and they even had to change to "RiF For Reddit". The "For Reddit" part already mitigates that worry - as I understand, that was the entire point of Google enforcing that policy to begin with.

And honestly I'm just kind of being wishy about it. I'd have loved to see all of the Reddit apps basically Trojan horse their users into Lemmy rather than simply shut down. We can dream can't we? :P

Honestly, I don't know if half the ultra casual users would even notice.

Man, do I miss Apollo.....at least I can use Sync on my galaxy tablet

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Christian released a beans wallpaper so maybe Apollo for lemmy is coming?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Beans….lemmy…what’s the connection??

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There was a post where a people just upvoted a can of beans

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

It would make so much sense…for Apollo to just handle Lemmy

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’ve actually figured it out.

Reddit.API replace with Lemmy.API. We’re in!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

lol we’re one regex away from going back to peak iOS app support!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I still forget and open the app every now and then. Memmy is really close, im very happy with it.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Hey don't have to tell me, my last app was Joey. Liftoff is doing pretty well for me though.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

I actually got my sync to look like a better version of Baconreader, needless to say I'm pretty happy!

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I couldn't find the API for Kbin, so that's unlikely to happen soon

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

As I understand it, the API is still in progress. Planned eventually but the service itself is still somewhat a beta.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I heard something about the API coming out in the next month or so.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Cries in Boost

There’s Beans, another client that’s trying to do the whole ‘iOS’ aesthetic (though in a way that’s unlike Apollo) and Memmy, which borrows a lot of Apollo’s design aesthetic.
