Mabuhay at maligayang pag-alis sa Lemmy! ✈️

An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! 🇵🇭

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

PAGCOR celebrates 40 years with new logo

ROTFLMAO

Looks like a cross between Cinemalaya and Petron.

Please tell me they didn't spend a fortune on this, because if they did, parang lugi ata sila. First the Love the philippines then this.

They did. 3,035,714.28 pesos.

Mas maganda pa yung mga revisions sa internet na nakita ko, although tbf, it isn't any better because the logo is bad to begin with.

Putangina 3m for a not just a shitty logo but equally shitty branding?

Tanginang yan mag graphic designer na lang ako sa gobyerno.

EDIT: Mans actually had a stint (not sure if he graduated from) USTe CFAD. (Link) I mean come on, at least a bit more effort for this at least. Wala rin ako mahanap na design brief so at least one is given a rationale behind the layout, design, theme.

God dammit i have to admit a bit salty kasi 3m nakuha nya for a bootleg petron logo kingina hahahaha

EDIT 2: Branding hindi brandy lmao

I'm sorry, but logos nowadays are hideous 🤮

Can confirm. Worked in a company that had an in-house team of graphic designers and their logos are atrocious.

Also, hiring people to make you one with a "budget" is a bad idea. You need to have a limitless cash flow upwards to the equivalent of millions of pesos from an international firm for them to seriously gameplan an identity and sensical logo.

And the problem is, hanggang logo lang sila :(

Not an expert, but I've recently been fascinated with the concept and read (sparsely) on it.

You've got to have a consistent logo and branding. And sometimes, they don't even converse with the client. I know there are horor clients out there, but it is impossible to get shit done properly without knowing what the company is about, what is significant to them in terms of values. Hell, some even go research competing companies' logos just to come up with a logo and branding design that can convince them essentially that "hell, sa logo pa lang na to, talo na ung competition nyo".

A well designed, well-thought out, communicable brand and design is not necessarily expensive, but definitely should be bang for your buck.

Take a look at Apple, McD's, Nike, etc. Hell even National Geographic's logo is so simple and yet almost anyone who sees that yellow rectangle instantly knows who this is and what they're about.

Considering the disaster of a PAGCOR logo, for 3 million, AT LEAST do some research on the damn company, culture and history. This is what happens when there is no "peer review" and you throw designs willy nilly and see what sticks.

Sucks to be the graphic designer, but you have to admit, the 3mm makes it suck less.
