I'm watching YouTube on my LG TV quite often. It's not unbearable yet. There's never more than 2 ads. Never more than 30 seconds in total, otherwise it's always skippable. Skippable ads now and then.
It's not great, but not terrible. I'm based in the EU for context.
Does it sync with my other devices and YouTube itself? Watch history? Recommendations? Otherwise I'm not interested.
Edit: SmartTube and SmartTube Next are both for Android TVs. LG has WebOS.
Thanks though.
Sorry it won't work for you, but I wanted to throw out for anyone else reading thing: smarttube does let you sign in and have watch history and stuff, yes. And smarttube can also be used on amazon FireOS tvs.
Cool, wish I could use it on stock OS. Sounds great!
There's a version for webos too. But lg patched the security exploit. There may be a solution but I didn't check as I don't watch YouTube.
On newer webos, you need to enable developer mode and then you can install homebrews (adsless YouTube, kodi and more), without the need to root.
The downside is that to keep the develop mode apps for more than 48 hours, you need to setup a crontab or an ittt job to connect to LG servers to automatically renew the developer token.
I have an LG 55C8 and was able to root it (somebody figured that out last year or so). I don't know if you still can root your model, but I'd look into it! There's a patched YouTube app which incorporates ad block and even sponsor block! It single handedly prevented me from buying an Android box and skipping the TV's smart features altogether.
WebOS huh? Checkout WebOS Homebrew Project, they have a youtube player with adblocker and sponsorblock support.
That's pretty cool. I'm too scared to mess around with my TV though like that. Like I mentioned it's not unbearable yet, but when it becomes so I'll just uninstall I guess, and cast LibreTube or something from my phone to my Chromecast. 👍
