I've never been to Perth - what's it like there?

It's really beautiful. Clean. Transport is clean. Nice scenery to look at on the train. And clean. Melbourne looks like a ghetto compared to Perth.

Sadly parts of Melbourne really do need a good clean with a high pressure hose.

warm, good public transport, water tastes salty, quokkas, so many ravens

Ravens? Maybe I need to go over for a visit.

almost the only birds i heard

If you have a raven you don't need any other birds.

So if anyone is thinking of getting additional birds just remember this post. Quoth the Rusty Raven, "never more".

Ah yes, the ‘eastern states are stealing our mining money and GST’ kind of vibe. It is a lovely city though.

People with short memories think like this. Truth is WA was a drain on the country for the first 80ish years after Federation, the state is massive and had a population under a Million until around 40-50 years ago.

Yes, WA has more than pulled its weight since then, but it is balancing the books.

Smaller and has a more relaxed feel than Melbourne. Some attractions nearby also, like Fremantle and Margret River.

Freo was hit hard by the pandemic. The cappuccino strip still hasn't recovered. Fewer people go there now because so much is closed, which feeds the cycle of places struggling with patronage.

Life is peaceful there, in the open air..

Remember that beautiful day where the sky was clear, the weather was warm and you felt like you had to go out and do something to make the most of it. Well, it's like that here every day.

This is why I don't like the other half of my family who lives in WA.

Was last there in the 80s, so anything I have to say is long out of date. I had a LOT of trouble navigating their bus system. I really hope that has improved - would make such a huge difference to getting around without a car.

they have improved so much: the tap card works well, the app is accurate, and they have an airport train
