Regarding the brain damage, it looks like he tested it by himself.
I half expect him to walk out of X with usable wings on one day. He'll then obviously, fly too close to the sun.
He's a genius though, he'd obviously go at night when it's dark and cooler.
They got 'bid adieu' to the birds, though. Bird wasn't cool and edgy enough for Elron. He'd prefer a jet pack.
