Producers encouraged infidelity, if sparks didn't fly from the start. If sparks did fly, the couples would be 'tested' a bit more to create tension. Most groups scenes heavily edited to paint certain people as 'villains'.
About 50% of the participants only signed up to create drama. Producers would spread fake rumours and see how people reacted, then they'd try to make the rumours reality if it looked like shit was going to get juicy.
